Sorrow TV (born: August 25, 1994 (1994-08-25) [age 30]), was an American YouTuber and voice actor who was best known as one of the pioneers of the 'Reddit reading' style of YouTube video that rose to popularity in 2017.

Content

The large majority of his YouTube videos consist of "Reddit Readings", involving reading the top posts of all time aloud from a wide variety of popular subreddits (including r/niceguys, r/oldpeoplefacebook, and r/thathappened) from Reddit. His videos are characterized by him reading and singing in a variety of entertaining voices and accents.

Sorrow TV also occasionally posted short video edits, usually dubbing his own voice over movie actors or adding dialogue to film and tv show scenes to comedic effect.

History

Sorrow TV's channel was created on October 8, 2016. The channel's first video ( Why Scream: The TV Series is bad ) was uploaded to YouTube on the same day (though this video has since been privatised). Over the next several months, the videos uploaded to the channel were generally short comedy bits about pop culture and memes.

His first video related to Reddit was r/unexpected, posted on December 30th, 2016. r/oldpeoplefacebook was uploaded on July 25, 2017, and was his first video in his series of 'Reddit readings' (whereas the other r/unexpected video was just a short clip). The video blew up, causing a large spike in viewership and giving the channel a newfound popularity.

Sorrow TV created a Patreon in October 2017.

Sorrow TV's YouTube channel reached 1 million subscribers in August 2018.

Due to the variety of controversial subreddits Sorrow TV has covered, YouTube allegedly withheld his silver and gold Play Buttons. This has been a common occurrence for content creators in the 'Reddit Reading' community.

Sorrow TV was mentioned by PewDiePie in one of his YouTube videos  in March 2019, after a video of him singing to his hamster was demonetised by YouTube.

Hiatus from YouTube

Sorrow TV went on an official break from uploading to YouTube from August 23, 2019, due to a decline in his mental wellbeing, as well as a growing drop in his enthusiasm for making videos over the course of 2019. This was likely due to the ongoing issues he was experiencing with YouTube's demonetization system at the time, wherein large numbers of his videos got demonetised or blocked. He continued to make posts on his Twitter during this time.

Sorrow TV officially returned to YouTube on October 22nd, 2019, with a new r/comedyheaven video, however, uploads to the channel have been dramatically reduced in frequency since. A four month gap spanned between his final video upload of 2019 and his first video upload of 2020. His channel is currently unofficially deemed inactive.

Personal Life

Sorrow TV lives in the USA. He has a brother who has featured in two of his YouTube videos. He also had a pet hamster named BBQ (Q for short) who became well-loved by fans of his YouTube channel. Sorrow TV announced via Twitter that Q passed away in September 2020.
