EmiKotone, or just Emi, is a Brazilian animator and currently a VTuber known for her videos about reviews and daily stuff.

History

Emi began her career as an internet artist, posting art mainly on her Facebook account, usually inspired by anime and cute (kawaii) content. On December 25, 2015, she began her career as a YouTuber with her first channel titled simply as EMI, where there were small animations that ended up generating a fan base for her over the years. One of her best-known early videos was an animation titled "Solta meu Namorado!" which ended up becoming a meme among small animators in 2018, although at first she didn't get much credit for making the original video.[1] On January 27, 2022 Emi decided to start her career as a VTuber by creating another YouTube channel titled EmiKotone which has currently become her main channel.

Controversy

Attacks against Vii Zedek

In January 2024, Emi made a movement with her followers against voice actress Vii Zedek on Twitter, accusing Zedek of being transphobic after taking old tweets made by her out of context. This ended up generating a movement to try to ruin Zedek's career by trying to make her lose her job as a voice actress and making her lose characters she was going to voice, most notably the character Smolder in League of Legends.[2]

In August of the same year, Zedek announced on his Twitter profile that she had filed a lawsuit for moral damages against Emi, the court ordered her to pay compensation of 25,000 reais, which ended up making many turn against Emi at that time. Emi tried to get around the problem by blocking anyone who commented on the case on Twitter and later made a video response claiming that she had not changed her mind against Zedek, accusing her again of transphobia.[3][4]
