―Denis' old outro

Denis Kopotun[1] (born: June 5, 1996 (1996-06-05) [age 28]),[2] better known online as Denis (formerly known as DenisDaily), is a Canadian gaming YouTuber and game developer, most famous for his Roblox content. He was a member of the disbanded & abandoned YouTuber group, The Pals. Denis (under a different Roblox username[3]), developed several Roblox games, including Obby but you're a Spider and Prison Run.

YouTube career

On 23 July 2011, Denis uploaded his first YouTube video on the channel KongoBoom, collaborating with the likes of Flebsy, Corl and Samgladiator. They made Minecraft videos of roleplaying and Survival Multi-Players (SMP) to a small audience. It was not until in late 2015 when they began to grow exponentially. In 2016, after accumulating an established fanbase, Denis and Corl were approached by Sub and Alex as partners to upload videos together on the Sub SubZeroExtabyte channel. They soon created The Pals, which was one of the most popular Roblox YouTube groups of all time. Not too long later, Sketch joined The Pals. The Pals had 5 members, Denis, Corl, Sketch, Sub and Alex. Denis was featured regularly on many channels. These included The Pals, Sketch, Alex, Sub, Corl. He was famous for playing Roblox, but has been known to play Minecraft, Granny, Raft and other indie horror games[4]. Denis created affiliate channels, SirMeowsALotYT which focused on animation and Denis Minecraft which focused on his Minecraft series[5]. On 7 October 2018, Denis released mobile game Cats and Cosplay on Google Play Store and the App Store for his fans to play[6].

In 2019, due to controversy involving Corl and a fan and other factors[7], The Pals disbanded, leading to all the members, including Denis to pursue their YouTube careers seperately. Each of the members would still appear in the others' videos as collaborators from time to time.

In 2020, Denis announced the release of Denis and Me, a cartoon series based on himself and his cat Sir Meows A Lot[8]. The show aired on Canadian television before being uploaded to YouTube for free. As of 2024, the show has 3 seasons, 2 of which are available on the Denis and Me YouTube channel. In January 2021, Denis took a 3-month break to recover from his depleting mental health, stating that all he wanted "was a break" due to the constant overwork he faced years before.[9]. After the break, he began reaching out to many Roblox content creators to make videos together. These included Flamingo, PolarCub (Dani), Temprist, Kaden, Laughability and Jandel. In 2023, Denis shared how he would be focusing more on game development and would be slowing down on YouTube uploads[10]. As of December 2024, he has not uploaded since.

Personal life

Denis currently lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada[11] with his Fiancé, Gabby O'Hara[12]. They own a pet dog called Masha. Denis works as a video game developer and content creator.

Controversies

GrowBux

On 25 September 2017, Denis uploaded a YouTube video promoting a website "Growbux" which allegedly allowed users to receive Robux, Roblox's virtual currency, for free through completing surveys that the website linked a viewer to[13]. However, this directly violated the Roblox Terms of Use of receiving or allowing others to receive Robux through non-official ways like purchasing from the official store or converting it into real money through their DevEx programme. In Denis' case, Robux was being distributed through groups on the platform to his viewers who generated him commision from clicked links[14]. Denis received instant backlash for advertising basically a scam to his young and impressionable audience. Denis however defended claims of the site, stating how it "works exactly as advertised"[15].

In a reaction video several years later, he said that he had removed the video from YouTube days after the allegations, but regretted not making an official update as he "had never dealt of any sort of drama"[16].

Disbanding of The Pals

According to Denis, he said that Corl's infamous tweets were not the sole reason for the disbanding of The Pals. On his reaction video, he shared how none of the members predicted The Pals' extreme growth and from being "friends having fun making videos" to having an "obligation to keep up what we (The Pals) had started" was weighing on all of The Pals. Denis directly shared that many of them did not "necessarily feel like [posting]".[17]

Corl's tweets and removal

In February 2019, Corl got into a heated argument with a Pals fan on Twitter (now X). This had pushed the fan to suicidal thoughts. This had received widespread attention to the community. He also tweeted many nasty, untrue facts about The Pals and the members. In a deleted response video by The Pals, Denis stated how Corl was extremely rude when trying to be reasoned with and "refused to see the situation from another perspective". The video also stated how Corl did not want, or intend to reconcile with any parties affected in the controversy. The other Pals members agreed that Corl should be removed from The Pals entirely.
