Food (Japanese: たべもの Tabemono) is a type of item in the Yo-kai Watch games. They are used for healing the health of a player's Yo-kai friend, while drinks replenish their Soultimate Gauge, as well as swaying enemy Yo-kai to join the player's side and as means for completing certain quests and favors.
Overview
Food is essential for befriending Yo-kai in the games, which can be given before or during the battle. Though, giving the food before the battle will prevent the player from applying stat-changing Talisman onto the player's Yo-kai in their party.
Each Yo-kai has a favorite and despised food, as feeding them in battle can increase or decrease the chances of the Yo-kai being recruited. The same also applies to Yo-kai in the party as feeding them will restore their health or Soultimate bar greater or lower than usual. In Yo-kai Watch 3, an item called the Forbidden Fruit gives the ability for the player to instantly befriend the Yo-kai after they're defeated.
Food can be bought from shops like Everymart, which sells Rice Balls and Drinks while places like Nom Burger have Hamburgers. It's also found in vending machines around town that can be interacted with to buy some drinks.
Different types of food can be told from the description that say "Yo-kai will like you a bit", "some", "a lot", and "a ton" which are four different levels of food which is either harder to obtain or more expensive in price. The better quality of the food is fed the bigger chances that the Yo-kai will be befriended.
Food is also required for Quests or Favors, where giving some away in the latter will lead to a reward being offered for in return.

Yo-kai Watch
Yo-kai Watch introduces Rice Balls, Bread, Candy, Milk, Juice, Hamburgers, Ramen, Chinese Food, Veggies, Meat and Seafood.
Yo-kai Watch 2
Yo-kai Watch 2 introduces Sushi, Curry, Sweets, Doughnuts, Oden, Soba, Snacks and Chocobars.
Yo-kai Watch 3
Yo-kai Watch 3 introduces Ice Cream, Donuts, Pizza, Hot Dogs, Pasta, Tempura, Sushi-Tempura and Sukiyaki.
The introduction of forbidden fruit (which has an 100% befriend rate) allows for easier brefriending
Yo-kai Watch 4
Yo-kai Watch 4 introduces Fruit and Udon. It excludes Chinese Food, Oden, Pizza, Hot Dogs and Pasta.
Due to the befriending system being changed in Yo-kai Watch 4, they serve much less of a use in the game, with it only being used to heal Yo-kai in battle or for Quests.
Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble
In Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble, Food is used only for befriending enemy Yo-kai.
Yo-kai Watch World
Yo-kai Watch World introduces a few new Food items: Mochi Kinchaku, Melon Chocobar, Peperoncino, Chicken Sukidon, Beef Sukidon and Takoyaki.
Y School Heroes: Bustlin' School Life
Food in Bustlin' School Life is only used on the player and human allies. It refills HP, hunger and gives other buffs such as restoring the transformation gauge or increasing stats. Students can equip two food items each and newly recruited students come with food items equipped. Food items have usage numbers so that one item can be used more than once. Empty food will stay in your inventory but can be replenished by talking to the woman in the canteen in the student dorms.
Bustlin' School Life introduces Donburi, Rice, Drinks (separate to Juice), Healthy Food, Bento, Luxury French and Noodles. It excludes Candy, Milk, Juice, Ramen, Sushi, Chinese Food, Fruit, Veggies, Meat, Seafood, Curry, Oden, Soba, Udon, Chocobars, Donuts, Pizza, Hot Dogs, Pasta, Tempura and Sukiyaki.

These food items are the only Food items to ever be Key Items, they are given by Wiglin in Yo-kai Watch Blasters when the game is connected to one of the three Yo-kai Watch 2 versions, and are required to meet Jibanyan S, Komasan S and Komajiro S, respectively. In Yo-kai Watch 2 and onwards, these food items are included in the "Sweets" category.

Trivia
- The Candy type's Japanese name, dagashi, refers to a type of candy and snacks that became widespread after World War II. Mainly marketed to children with small allowances, they are very cheap and feature brightly-colored packaging, and occasionally come with small prizes like figurines and free snack tickets. Though the term usually refers to sweet candy, it can also include snacks like senbei (flavoured rice crackers), umaibō (stick-shaped corn snacks) and candied fruit. They used to be sold in dedicated shops called dagashi-ya, but are now increasingly sold in convenience stores as well.
- Gooey Candy is neri-ame (ねり飴, "kneaded candy"), a syrup-like candy that is meant to be poured on chopsticks and kneaded until it changes consistency.
- Toragon is the only Yo-kai who likes Takoyaki.
