Cole (Japanese: 月浪トウマ Tsukinami Touma) is one of the main characters in the Yo-kai Watch series, who first appeared in Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: The Return of the Oni King and Yo-kai Watch Shadowside as deuteragonist, and as a playable character in Yo-kai Watch 4.
He holds the Yo-kai Watch Ogre, which was originally the Kigan Gear given by Ogu, Togu, and Mogu in the movie causing him to unintentionally become possessed by the Onimaro. He can use it to transform into Progenitor by rotating the watch to a specific part, and into Sword Bearer by putting a Sacred Sword in it.

Biology
Cole is a light-skinned boy with short dark green-toned hair and brown eyes. However, under the influence of the Onimaro, his eyes glow red. After gaining the Yo-kai Watch Ogre, his eyes will change color (depending on which Yo-kai he chooses to transform into) during his transformation.
In the movie, he wears a high school uniform consisting of a white shirt, a pale yellow vest, a blue blazer, a blue tie, black pants, and shoes.
In the series, he usually wears long trousers, even during the warmer seasons. He tends to wear the colors, blue and black. During the cooler seasons, his choice of colors is dark blue and white. He wears the Yo-kai Watch Ogre strapped on his left wrist although he usually puts it on just before a transformation, and doesn't wear it all the time.
He is considered to be handsome by people.
In the beginning of the movie, Cole seemed to have a very apathetic and aloof personality, due to his parents rarely being home and being a target of getting bullied. However, deep down inside, he has a very kind heart.
He can be described as the person who always says, "That's okay". He seems to notice things a lot faster than the others. He is usually seen as, levelheaded, who, often being the one who calms down Bruno. He can also be seen as humble and modest.
He has a severe fear of being alone again.
Relationships
Summer Adams
He met Summer when they were in elementary school when she had scratched her knee and he helped her. However, they eventually grew apart and didn't interact much until the events of the Onimaro, where he was against Summer. Soon after Summer cured the darkness in his heart, the two have been shown to possess a strong friendship. In the game, Cole was surprised that Summer was the daughter of the "Legendary Yo-kai Watch master".
Nathan Adams
Despite their least interactions, he was amiable towards Summer's father. He expressed astonishment when he and Bruno learn that he is the "Legendary Yo-Kai Watch User", as he is amazed of how Summer's father easily able to befriend Yo-Kai while being positive of any situations, expressing by saying "As expected from a Watch Master"; which made him respect Nate's abilities as a Yo-Kai Master.
Mafuyu Tsukinami
Mafuyu is Cole's mother. As a child, Cole felt neglected by his parents. However, it was soon revealed that they did truly love him.
Bruno
Cole tends to be the one to contrast Bruno's upbeat personality, other than that the two are very good friends. He is somehow a bit creeped out when it comes to Bruno's puppy love for Isabelle
Tate Adams
The two appeared to be good friends. Tate admires him.
Ogu, Togu & Mogu
He met Ogu, Togu and Mogu. during the events of the fourth movie, where they were persuading him to join their cause. Despite the trio being Onimaro, a mostly evil race of Yo-kai, they deeply care for Cole, as shown by healing his wounds after being impaled by a fragment of the Oni King's blood.

Cole is unlocked in Chapter 2, after heading to the park in Sakuragi Hills.
In battle, Cole is a fighter. The weapon he uses in battle is a sword, and he can use the Yo-kai Watch Ogre to transform into different forms. He can use the four Progenitor Yo-kai as special moves, and he can use the Sacred Armory to transform into a Sword Bearer.

In the anime
Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: The Return of The Oni King
Cole makes his first appearance in Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: The Return of the Oni King, where he appears as a minor antagonist.
With his parents rarely being home, and him getting bullied by other people, Cole feels lonely and frustrated. The Onimaro end up using this to their advantage to draw Cole on their side, gifting him the "Kigan Gear", a device that allows Cole to wield inhuman power.
For a while, Cole helps the Onimaro in spreading their infection, but eventually, he runs into Summer at the airport where they fought against one another. Despite winning, he got knocked out and was taken to Kitaro who helped enter his heart, where they could cure the darkness in his heart, and he then joins Summer and the others in their fight against the Oni King Rasen. Soon after the darkness was removed, the Kigan Gear turned into the Yo-kai Watch Ogre, giving him the ability to turn into 4 different kinds of Progenitor Yo-kai.
In the climax, Cole uses the Stormweaver, as Lord Acala to defeat Oni King Rasen but was then impaled by Oni King Rasen's blood. When it seemed that he will die, Ogu, Togu & Mogu sacrifice themselves to save his life.
Yo-kai Watch Shadowside
After the events of the movie, Cole joined Summer and Bruno to become the Yo-kai Detective Agency, an investigation team that solves supernatural incidents. Cole's ability is to be able to turn into the 4 different Progenitor Yo-kai, as well as Sword Bearer, through the use of his Yo-kai Watch Ogre. Theo is interested in his abilities.
In SS012, it was revealed that Theo was interested in him due to his ownership of the Stormweaver, which he needs in order to awaken the Princess. Theo uses Rei Sendo to capture Cole and steal the Stormweaver. However, in SS014, Summer and friends enlist the help of the Celestial Suzaku and Cole manages to recover the stolen Sacred Sword. after defeating Fukurou, who had used the Stormweaver to transform into Fudou Myouou Ja.
In SS021, Suzaku is injured by Voidera. In order to heal him, they need to return him to his Sword Bearer form. Despite Bruno's disappointment, Cole gains Suzaku's Suzaku Sotenzan after Bruno breaks its seal.
In SS022, it is revealed that a fragment of Oniou Rasen remained inside his body and that Mogu, Ogu, and Togu were fighting it inside of Cole's body. After Summer and Bruno drag the fragment out of Cole's body, Cole uses Suzaku's powers to destroy it for good.
In SS031, the abilities of the Sword Bearer Genbu are required to break through the Lady Arachnia's barrier and web. Cole challenges Genbu as Suzaku and is entrusted with his Genbu Hotenfu, gaining his third Sacred Sword.
In SS045, he and Shutendoji fight off against Byakko in order to retrieve the final Sacred Sword in order to awaken Juno within Summer.
In SS049, it was revealed that both he and Bruno are reincarnations of Juno's knights, Boreas and Eurus respectively.

In the manga
Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: The Return of The Oni King
Cole plays a similar role as he does in the anime however he is more eager to work with the Onimaro. Instead of getting Kitaro's help to view Cole's memories, Mitsue uses her magic to do so. Summer helps Cole understand that his parents do care about him and unlike in the anime where only Summer shows up to his house on his birthday, she is joined by a large group of her friends.
Once freed of the Onimaro's control, Cole helps the others defeat the Onimaro Leader. He first transforms into Goemon but is eventually overwhelmed. After other Yo-kai beat the Onimaro down, Cole transforms into Lord Acala to finish him off. Cole bids farewell to the others as he returns home to have dinner with his parents and the Onimaro Trio decide to live inside him secretly - though Cole is aware.

Etymology
His family name "Tsukinami" (Japanese: 月浪) literally translates to "moon wave".
His Japanese given name Touma is likely taken from "winter" (Japanese: 冬 Tō, In Go'on and Kan'on), being one of the four seasons, which Bruno, Summer, and Theo are also named for.
Cole may be a play on the word 'Cold' to link in with his winter theming.
