Off-seers (Japanese: おくりびと, okuribito) are particular characters in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Overview
They are individuals who mourn for those that lose their lives on the battlefield, a burden that can be felt from the music played on their Flutes.[1] In Xenoblade Chronicles 3, both Noah and Mio are off-seers. Some NPCs are also off-seers, such as Shijima. In gameplay, Noah and Mio can send off dead soldiers found along the way to gain Affinity from the corresponding colonies.[2] Off-seers perform both on the field of battle, and during a Homecoming Ceremony. The role exists both in Keves and Agnus, although there are some differences in custom. Kevesi off-seers perform solo on the field, meanwhile Agnus off-seers always perform in pairs. However, the off-seers of both nations perform in a larger group during a Homecoming Ceremony.
Gameplay
The husks of various soldiers can be seen throughout Aionios. Interacting with ones that produce red motes allows either Noah or Mio to play their off-seer melody, dispersing the motes and gaining Affinity for a nearby Colony. Occasionally, a large group of husks can be found, and both Noah and Mio play the combined off-seer melody in a cutscene. If the player controls Mio, she will be the one to play the Flute, otherwise Noah plays it.
