Key Items are items in the Xenoblade Chronicles series.
Xenoblade Chronicles
In Xenoblade Chronicles and Future Connected, Key Items are used specifically for quests. Many of them can be collected regardless of whether the quest has been received or not. They appear as small glowing red balls, similar to Collectables aside from the colour. If a quest to find a Key Item has been accepted, its location will be marked on the mini-map by a red exclamation mark. Key Items cannot be sold, and have their own section in the inventory.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Key Items are usually required or rewarded during quests.
Some key items can be used once for various effects while others, like Store Deeds have a passive effect upon being obtained.
Torna ~ The Golden Country
In Torna ~ The Golden Country, Key Items are usually required or rewarded during quests.
Slate Pieces
Slate Pieces are sixteen key items in total, which must be collected from all five regions in the Kingdom of Torna in order to unlock the Cavern of the Seal and thus access the Tasteless Altar and the Nopon Halfsage.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
In Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Key Items are usually required or rewarded during quests.
Future Redeemed
In Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed, many new types of Key Items are introduced.
Weapon Upgrades
All weapon upgrades require a type of Bladestone to upgrade weapons from rank I-X.

- Mysterious Fragment (Rank X)

Meals must be unlocked from a Recipe before being able to be cooked.
Amulets
Amulets are used to increase the effects of Party Skills in Future Redeemed. They are given as rewards for Nopon Medals Needed. Nopon Medals must be acquired for this purpose.

Unlock Kits are used to unlock slots for Accessories, Gems, Arts, and Affinity Growth.
Field Crafting
Black Shards and Black Crystals are used to Craft Ether Slides and Ether Lifts, respectively.

Lessons in Unity are used to increase the effects of Unity skills.
