The Iris is a physical enhancement used in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Future Redeemed. All soldiers of Keves have a blue Iris in their right eye, while soldiers of Agnus have yellow Irises in their left eyes. Lost Numbers and Consuls may have an Iris in either eye, except for X, Y, and Z, who have Irises in both eyes. Irises of Ouroboros and Lost Numbers take the shape of an Ouroboros ring. Moebius Irises appear as red infinity symbols. When a soldier uses the functions of the Iris, the Iris takes on an orange glow regardless of one's nationality. The arc length of the Iris is directly associated with how much life essence the Flame Clock of one's colony has, the higher the life essence, the larger the arc length.
Overview
The Iris has multiple functions. It can be used as a telescope, as well as displaying and sharing information with others who possess an Iris, such as maps, radio calls, and Collectopaedia Cards. It can also be used to summon one's Blade, equip someone with Accessories and Gems, and Ouroboros can also use it to equip the Classes of their party members and Heroes they form a close bond with. It emits a weak radio signal, which the Consuls can use their own Iris to track soldiers of any affiliation. This can be mitigated through the use of eyepatches created with Origin Metal, which blocks the signal. The Black Fog has been shown to interfere with the Iris's functions, and can seemingly obscure the Iris radio signal as well. The Consuls can also use their Iris to mind control Kevesi and Agnian soldiers who are tied to a Flame Clock, which results in the soldiers having a red Iris. While most people in Aionios are born with an Iris, there exists cases where people are born without one. Nimue is one such example, who uses a special contact with the appearance of an Iris to fit in. Additionally, Nopon are shown to lack Irises.
