Alois Bernholt, also known simply as Al, is a recruitable character in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. Al appears during Chapter 13, he is the pilot of the Ares Prime.

Story

Al is the mysterious hooded figure featured as part of new story content in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition viewed in different footage. He lowers his hood after approaching Lao.

Gameplay

Location

When not in the party, Al can be found in front of BLADE Tower in the Administrative District of New Los Angeles. However, he does not appear here after completing the game until Chapter 13 (Act 1) is completed again.

Recruitment

Al can be recruited after completing Chapter 13 (Act 1).

In battle

Al's Class is Duelist+. When he is first recruited, he is two levels higher than Cross and rank 3. He wields a Longsword and Sniper Rifle. His two Signature Arts are Howling Soul (Sniper Rifle) and Hercules Blow (Longsword). Al has four Skill slots. His class progression is as follows:

Concept

The character creation of Al is based on the concept of the Black Knight viewed in the original game and appearing in the Xenoblade X: The Secret File. The Black Knight concept serves to introduce this new character in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.

Trivia

• Al is the only human in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition who doesn't inhabit a mimeosome.
• Al is the only playable character in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition to not have a Nintendo Switch Online profile icon element dedicated to him.
• A common gag with Al is for someone, usually Al himself, to ask someone else "How's it poppin'." Typically, the other person would reply something along the lines of "Terrible. And you?", in which the person who asked the initial question would reply "Better than you, meaning terrific." Other variations of this gag also appear throughout the various acts of Chapter 13 and Al's Affinity Missions, including, but not limited to, Al saying "Not awful enough for you to be worrying about!" to Gwin instead of saying he was terrific.
