This article is about a region north to the Yaruga. For a Nilfgaardian province, see Angren (province). |
Angren is the name of a region in the Northern Kingdoms adjacent to the Yaruga. Located on the right bank of the river, bordered by Mahakam and Klamat pass to the east and north, Riverdell and Yaruga to the south.
The region is known for its woods, called "Angren Gold": cedars, sycamores, and pines.
History
During the Second Nilfgaardian War, the Nilfgaardian Empire conquered the land in order to use its timber for building ships.
Throughtout the war, Meve, Queen of Lyria and Rivia led her guerillas to fight against Nilfgaard in Angren as it had ideal conditions for partisan warfare. She handed them several defeats, including the one at the Battle for the Bridge on the Yaruga, contributing heavily to the Empire's ultimate defeat.[4]
After much deliberations, it was agreed that Angren would be given to King Foltest.[5]

Notes
- On the CD PROJEKT RED's world map, Angren is merged with Dol Angra and parts of Riverdell, making it so large it borders Amell and Blue Mountains. A possible explanation of this could be that the "Angren" shown on the map is a Nilfgaardian Province of such name (similarly to how the Province of Cintra included Cintra and Upper Sodden).
- The Witcher Role-Playing Game does include a Province of such name, along with a description.
