Raketenjagdpanzer 1 | Raketenjagdpanzer 2 | Jaguar 1 | Jaguar 2 |
The Jaguar 1 is a West German tank destroyer available to NATO forces.
Overview
Really bad accuracy with the ATGM, it's cheap enough to be vetted, though the ATGM itself is really slow, meaning the opponent can dodge it. Paired with supply trucks these fast ATGM carriers come in handy as a backup for your MBTs. Move forward with your MBTs and send these after upon enemy contact.
It can be efficient if the opponent charges with transports as it has an MMG, unlike other ATGM platforms, and therefore can take down the infantry, or at least suppress them, after taking out the transport. Not really recommended, so in a nutshell it is a "cheap piece of crap".
History
Between 1967 and 1968 Henschel and Hanomag built 318 Raketenjagdpanzer 2 for the Bundeswehr. Starting around 1978 316 of them were upgraded with additional armour and a new missile system and redesignated as Raketenjagdpanzer Jaguar 1.
From 1978 and 1982 obsolete Raketenjagdpanzer 2 units were converted into 316 Jaguar 1s by replacing the SS.11 missile system with a HOT launcher and upgrading the armour. During the period 1993 to 1995, new optics and a thermal imaging system were added.
