Italy, officially the Republic of Italy, is a unitary parliamentary republic in the Mediterranean Europe, and is a new DLC nation in Wargame: Red Dragon.
Description
Having been defeated in the Second World War, the Italians set up a republic in 1946 after a massive referendum and letting go of its foreign possessions. Later, the Italians became a founding member of NATO in 1949.
The Italian arsenal was composed primarily of exports from West Germany and the United States, such as the M14 (which would be later domestically upgraded and improved as the Beretta BM.59) and plenty of Leopards and M60 Pattons, as well as Starfighters and de Havilland Vampires. The Italians did create their own domestic military equipment and vehicles, such as the FIAT G jets, and the OTOMATIC prototype. Later on, they created excellent and advanced equipment and vehicles, such as the Ariete and Centauro, as well as the Beretta AR70/90. Other products include the AR.76 Campagnola army jeep, the hard-hitting A-129 Mangusta attack helicopter, and the A-11 Ghibli ground-attack aircraft.
The capable Italian Armed Forces were the linchpin of any NATO-led Mediterranean operation. They enjoy a long and proud military heritage, control of a large swath of the Mediterranean, and a strategic hard-to-invade location. Despite their reputation being tarnished during both world wars due to mediocre to terrible performance, even against the Ethiopian and Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Italians have had many successes in the past, such as the Italo-Turkish War, the Italian Wars of Independence, and Rome's rich military history.
