Achzarit

The Achzarit (Hebrew: אכזרית, meaning "cruel") is a Israeli Heavy Armored Personnel Carrier that appears in Nation Pack: Israel DLC of Wargame: Red Dragon. This vehicle has a command version (Achzarit Pikud).

History

The development of this APC was started in 1982 and finished in 1988.The Achzarit is based on the Soviet-built T-54/T-55 tanks (which also known as "Tiran" in Israeli service) which were captured from Arab armies during the Arab–Israeli wars. The IDF took the old design removed its turret and modified the chassis for carrying soldiers by adding a troop compartment and rear door. The engine was made more compact and powerful along other internal systems were upgraded. Reactive armor was installed over the original armored tank chassis. The total combat weight of the Achzarit is 44 tons, while the chassis of the original T-54 is only 27 tons.

The weapons that Achzarit holds actually included RCWS, although not reflected in the game. The developer NIMDA claims that Achzarit has amphibious capabilities, but it is not yet clear what preparations are required before wading.

Unlike the Nagmachon, which is specifically designed for low intensity counter-terrorism and security, the Achzarit is an armored assault vehicle used in conventional operations. Each Achzarit battalion typically consists of 36 Achzarit vehicles and 1 Achzarit Pikud command vehicle, as well as 4 Nagmash Chatap (M113) support vehicles. About 200 Achzarit vehicles are in IDF service.[1]

Overview

As a truly heavy armored vehicle, what important to note on the Achzarit is that its firepower is worse than even the 5-point Zelda (M113), but it still has slightly faster speed (60 KPH, which is lower than average level of tracked APCs).
