History
2015
On May 29, 2015, in a Q/A session with Shanghai HENIAN Information Technology Co. Ltd., fans asked questions about a possibility to update their VOCALOID3s. The company responded that it was always in consideration, but noted that upgrading a VOCALOID was not easy as it would require time, funding, and effort to revisit a VOCALOID. At the time, the company’s operations and survival could not allow them to update any vocals.[2]
On July 23, in response to a producer’s question, Yuezheng Longya’s production was leaked. It was also noted that SHN was considering VOCALOID4 updates for Luo Tianyi, YANHE, and Yuezheng Ling.[3]
2017
On September 7, 2017, it was announced that preparations for a YANHE upgrade would begin. Considerations for a "sweet sound" were mentioned. At the time of this announcement, it was assumed that the update would be made for VOCALOID4 as VOCALOID5 was not released until July 2018.[4]
2020
On February 22, 2020, Rosary noted that due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, many projects were delayed. Some time ago, he kept returning to the company, preparing to take home the recorded libraries for further work. After bringing them home, he was able to complete several V5s. At the time of his post, he hoped to create demos in time for YANHE's anniversary in July. He confirmed that she had a Sweet voicebank in the works and was asking for suggestions on the Chinese name of the voicebank. This post also confirmed that the update would be made for VOCALOID5.[5]
A sample titled "Tiándù XX%" was posted on Weibo and bilibili. This used a sweeter tone of YANHE and Vsinger wanted the fans to rank how sweet her voice was, which hinted that the song used the V5 Sweet voicebank. The title of the song would be based on the popular choice, replacing the "XX" portion (later known as "Tiándù 71.1%").[6] This song was also featured in the Bái Rì Mèng EP.[7] After the demo's release, Seira Ryu complimented the song and voice, and also noted that she returned to Shanghai the week before for additional recording.[8]
2021
On July 11, 2021, YANHE's V5 design was revealed and confirmed to be illustrated by TID. Trials of her beta voicebank were in preparation and more details would be announced in the near future.[9] After receiving backlash from fans regarding YANHE's, Yuezheng Ling's, and Luo Tianyi's V5 designs, Shanghai HENIAN apologized for making the fans worried and thanked them for their sincere concern on July 14. They confirmed that they would be taking time to polish and adjust all three of the V5 designs.[10]
It was announced that registrations for trialing YANHE V5 and Luo Tianyi V5 were to run from October 20 to October 31. The participation rules were detailed as followed:
- The trial version of VOCALOID5 YANHE and Luo Tianyi were temporarily available for producers, tuners, and original musicians who were interested in the voice synthesis sound library engine. Other users needed to pay attention to the official follow-up event release. Users who previously applied for VOCALOID5 Yuezheng Ling did not need to apply again.
- Users were to send a personal introduction and portfolio link to the designated company email. Instructions to apply for YANHE's or Tianyi's V5 trial would be sent as an email from the official mailbox.
- The VOCALOID5 editor was required to use the library.
- Due to the limited number of trial libraries, it was possible that that all trial applications may not be accepted.
- The final decisions of this activity were to be made only by Shanghai HENIAN[11]
On November 19, videos featuring YANHE V5's trial voicebank were uploaded to bilibili, implying that Shanghai HENIAN had began distributing her to users with approved applications. While there were no Chinese names associated with the voicebanks, according to producer usages, the two that she had available were known in English as "Normal" and "Sweet".
2022
On May 11, 2022, an updated version of the design by TID was revealed along with a reference sheet.[12] On October 14, it was announced that pre-orders for YANHE V5, Luo Tianyi V5, and Yuezheng Ling V5 were opening at 12:00 GMT+8. The physical boxes were revealed to contain a U Disk (USB Hard Disc Drive). The final names for YANHE's voicebanks were "Qīng" ("清"; official English: "Normal"; literally: "clear" or "pure") and "Mù" ("沐"; official English: "Sweet"; literally: "to cleanse", but can also mean "moisten" or "nourish"). Shipment was scheduled for 2023.[13]
2023
Luo Tianyi V5, YANHE V5, and Yuezheng Ling V5 were suddenly released around February 12, 2023 with no prior announcement or post-release acknowledgement. Fans noticed that the products were suddenly shipped around this timeframe. All three were later made available as digital copies on the VOCALOID SHOP on April 26.[14][15]
