“ | This sector is home to a very large creature the researchers call Serris. It is capable of moving and attacking at ultra-high speed. The more senseless and widespread destruction here may be attributable to Serris. No doubt the SA-X released it, but I can't be sure why yet. Serris has returned often to the breeding tank here. Its natural behavior must be to go back to it periodically. It's a valuable specimen, but you have been authorized to terminate it. If you don't, it may invade other sectors. | „ |
~ ADAM on Serris. |
Serris (in Japanese: イシュタル, Ishtar) is a minor antagonist in Metroid Fusion. It is a feral X infected sea monster and the fourth boss that Samus encounters on the Biologic Space Laboratories research station.
Appearance
Serris is a large eel-like creature, blue in color with a green underside. Alongside its back are sets of spikes; the front four have visible blood vessels and pulse up and down, most likely serving as gills. Its face consists of five yellow eyes, a maw of teeth, and a transparent head exposing its brain. As it takes damage, Serris' coloring turns dark gray and red.
Biography
Serris was originally a deep sea predator from SR388 that would be captured and taken to the Biologic Space Laboratories research station. It took refuge in Sector 4, dedicated to the research of marine life forms.
During the X Parasite invasion, Serris was infected when the SA-X infiltrated Sector 4, releasing it from its captivity. Serris' rampage causes immense damage to the sector, such as causing the water to become electrified due to broken power nodes. ADAM believes Serris should be found at its breeding tank which it normally returns to periodically, and authorizes Samus to terminate it before it could invade the other sectors.
Exploring the sector, Samus eventually discovers the breeding tank in question, only for it to consist of the original Serris' skeleton. A few rooms following that, a bridge above the water partially gives way into four platforms, when the X mimicking Serris reveals itself.
Serris attacks by rapidly jumping between the platforms, attempting to ram Samus. To defeat Serris, Samus must shoot a missile or a charged shot at its head. When injured, Serris will go on a rampage and move at an immense speed, during which it is temporarily invincible to all attacks. It will return to normal speed after a few seconds. Once enough damage is dealt, Serris' segments break off and its head explodes, revealing its Core-X. Destroying the membrane and absorbing the nucleus will unlock the Speed Booster ability.
With the Speed Booster, Samus can break through a wall holding the Pump Control Unit, allowing her to drain the water below the power nodes, removing the electrocution from the water.
