It is the creator and leader of the Loyal Three, and the archenemy of Ogerpon.

Biography

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Pre-games

Before the events of the games, Pecharunt lived with an old couple, who treated it like their own due to having no children of their own. Pecharunt created special Binding Mochi from the poison in its body to get more attention from the old couple. The Binding Mochi brought out the couple's greed, and they started giving request for gifts to Pecharunt, so it thought if it gave them their wishes, they’d love it even more.

One day, it used its Binding Mochi and Subjugating Chain to tame and transform a small and weak Pokémon: Okidogi, into a big, strong one, turning him into its retainer. Pecharunt had Okidogi deliver various gifts to the couple, including several boxes of Mythical Pecha Berries, only making their love for it grow.

One day, the couple asked Pecharunt for something strange: masks embedded with Tera Crystals that were rumored to be in the city of Kitakami. So Pecharunt, along with Okidogi, set off to Kitakami to get the set of Masks for the couple. While on the way, Pecharunt encountered two Pokémon, those being the clumsy, dimwitted Munkidori, and the short, dull-feathered Fezandipiti. Pecharunt fed both of them Binding Mochi and turned them into retainers as well. Munkidori became very intelligent with mild clairvoyant power, while Fezandipiti gained a beautiful look, lovely voice, and mesmerizing pheromones.

With its Three Retainers by its side, Pecharunt’s journey had begun. They crossed fields, mountains, and oceans, until they finally made it to Kitakami. While hiding away, they observed the Festival of Masks, searching for the masks, until they noticed two figures, wearing glittering masks: Ogerpon and her human partner.

Pecharunt infiltrated the cave where Ogerpon and her companion resided using Munkidori’s ability to track down the cave where Ogerpon lived.

While Ogerpon and her trainer were away, Pecharunt had Okidogi and Fezandipiti sneak into Ogerpon's den, and stole the masks. Before they could return with the masks, the man returned and tried to protect the masks from the intruders, but they were able to steal three of them: the Wellspring Mask, the Hearthflame Mask, and the Cornerstone Mask, with the man only holding onto the Teal Mask.

After escaping the cave with the masks, Pecharunt was overjoyed to have the masks, believing that with them, the couple would love them even more. This was short-lived when Ogerpon returned the cave, seeing her home in ruins with no traces of her companion, presumably killed or forced to flee, or the other masks, leaving only the Teal Mask.

Donning the Teal Mask with its kanabō in hand, Ogerpon set out to the nearby village to search for her friend, but instead found the trio and Pecharunt gloating over the masks they have stolen. Ogerpon attacked them in an uncontrollable fit of rage that culminated in her killing the trio while Pecharunt survived the battle. It found itself embroiled in battle with Ogerpon over the masks—ultimately resulting in Pecharunt’s defeat. Using the last of its strength, Pecharunt was able to clasp its shell closed, rolling away deep into the forest to slumber.

Generations later, a lady found the dormant Pecharunt and used it as a decoration in the Peachy's store in Mossui Town. As time passed, the people of Kitakami started knowing it as the "Never-Rotting Peach".

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask

Although Pecharunt doesn't play an active role in the first part of the DLC, Pecharunt's Retainers, now known as "The Loyal Three" serve as the main antagonists when they are revived, implied to be due to Kieran's increasing frustration and jealousy of the player. The Loyal Three immediately set out to steal the masks again but they were stopped by the efforts of Kieran, Carmine, and the player.

After their defeat, the Player is then able to catch the Loyal Three.

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 2: The Indigo Disk

Pecharunt doesn't play an active role in the second part of the DLC, continuing to pose as a decoration at Peachy's where it can be seen while being asleep.

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero's epilogue: Mochi Mayhem

After the players interacts with the decoration at Peachy's while having a Mythical Pecha Berry in their bag, the smell from it causes Pecharunt to awaken, remembering that the Mythical Pecha Berry was a gift it gave to its old family. Pecharunt disappears along the Mythical Pecha Berry without the player noticing while they were talking on the phone with Arven. Pecharunt then began its mission of mayhem, using its Binding Mochi to conquer the land of Kitakami and taking its citizens and pokémon as brainwashed slaves, including Carmine and Kieran's grandparents, Yukito and Hideko.

It then encountered Arven, Penny, Kieran and the player, and fired more Binding Mochi at the group, but the player dodged it while Kieran got hit on the head by it. Arven and Penny were immediately brainwashed and started dancing. After defeating them in a Double Battle, Kieran noticed Pecharunt attempted to flee. He refused to let Pecharunt escape, so he and the player chased it to Loyalty Plaza where they found Nemona, who was also brainwashed.

Soon the horde of mind-controlled townspeople started approaching them. Kieran held them off while the player battled Nemona. Once she was defeated, the player challenged, defeated, and caught Pecharunt, ending its reign of terror once and for all.

Afterwards, the townspeople were freed from Pecharunt's control, with only vague memories of what they did while brainwashed.

Pecharunt can now be used by the player anytime.

Appearance

When hiding within its shell, Pecharunt resembles a floating, upside-down pink peach with two stalks on its two lobes. It has a black circle at the center with white frown-looking white eyes.

Upon exiting its shell, Pecharunt is a small, mochi-like purple Pokémon with a short conical bit at its bottom along with several darker spots. It has a white headband-like marking running across its forehead and a ponytail-like appendage that fades to light pink. Its face and hands are light pink as well, with its hands being heart-shaped. It possesses white eyes, large round eyebrows and a bowtie-shaped mouth, constantly giving it a worried expression. Its shell is split in half, revealing a glowing, light-pink inside with lines running into the shell. Said halves are used as a set of extra arms in combat.

Personality

Pecharunt is known to be mischievous and manipulative, ordering its three slaves to steal the four masks from Ogerpon and her friend.

It also appears to be very cowardly as when Ogerpon attacked it in the past, it ordered its retainers to defend it while it watched from a safer distance, much later, it also tried to run away from Kieran after the defeat of Penny and Arven, whom it turned into its slaves.

It also seems to prefer brainwashing trainers to actually fighting alone, showcasing once again its cowardice, only fighting by itself when it has no other choice.

His cowardly attitude comes from him being very physically weak and small and his powers being long-range, avoiding close combat.

He is known for being bad tempered and selfish, but can be lovable and kind to those who treat him well.

It is shown to have a temper, like when the trainer sends out any member of the Loyal Three, it will get mad at them for betraying it for the player.

Despite this, Pecharunt is not without its redeeming qualities. It’s revealed that most of its crimes were committed with the hope of pleasing its parents with gifts, and that while Pecharunt was responsible for bringing out their greed with its mochi, all it wanted to do was to feel loved by them. As such, even when it was defeated by Ogerpon, Pecharunt sadly remembered the good life it had thanks to its caretakers and friends, which it was about to lose.

We can see that after Pecharunt was awakened by the Mythical Pecha Berry, his behavior became much more serious, perverse and mature. Showing a maturation since his previous defeat, confirming that before the epilogue, he was just a child.

In the video "The Untold Story Of Pecharunt" it is shown Pecharunt´s childish viewpoint of the situation, which we can presume that he actually never "befriended" his minions nor was fulfilling his "owners wishes" but was possessing the pokémon in his way and fulfilling his own wishes instead of his "owners", because the subjugating mochi possesses and controls beings to do exactly what Pecharunt wants, so he was just too innocent to perceive his own powers.

Abilities

  • Pokémon Moves: Like any Pokémon, Pecharunt is able to use many different Moves in battle. Pecharunt specifically can use the Signature Move "Malignant Chain" in which it releases its Toxic Chains and wrap them around its foes, Heavily Poisoning them.
  • Poison generation: Pecharunt generates and stores three different types of poison within its peach-shaped shell:
    • Regular Poison: A normal Poison that most Poison Type Pokémon possesses. Pecharunt can use its Toxic Chains to battle and Heavily Poison its foes. Thanks to its "Poison Puppeteer" Ability, every time one of its foes is Poisoned by it, they'll also become Confused.
    • Brainwashing Poison: Pecharunt can create poisonous, toxic mochi known as Binding Mochi, which has a sweet taste and causes all who eat them to have their desires and capabilities drawn out but chaining them to Pecharunt's will as a result. Humans under Pecharunt's control have purple eyes and are surrounded by a purple aura. The controlled humans also hold their arms while performing a chicken dance-like movement, repeating the word "mochi" constantly. However, in some cases like with Hideko, it is shown that the possessed human can still speak somewhat freely, though it may simply be Pecharunt influencing the propagation of the mochi among humans. Humans under its influence are often still prone to innate emotion and desires — Arven is visibly embarrassed while dancing, Penny instinctively combines the word "mochi" with "Veevee", and Nemona still expresses a strong urge to battle, being able to morph "mochi" into "match". It can even command humans or even Pokémon to fight for it in battles, managing to control multiple humans at once. Catching or Defeating Pecharunt will free all under its control with no memories of it.
    • Enhancing Poison: A special Poison capable of strengthening certain aspects of a Pokémon's bodies. Pecharunt used this Poison to create the Toxic Chains, that would be wrapped around Pecharunt's Retainers, which enhanced their muscles, brains, and look,s as seen with Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti respectively.
  • Levitation: Pecharunt is shown to not only be capable of levitating by itself but its opened shell halves as well.

Trivia

  • Despite the innocent narrative of Pecharunt's goals and Pecharunt being oblivious to its evil actions, it is still directly or indirectly the overarching antagonist of both The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk.
    • Pecharunt ordering the theft of Ogerpon's masks and causing the demise of her original trainer is what set in motion the backstory and events of The Teal Mask; In which the Loyal Three were hailed as heroes and Ogerpon marked as a violent threat for centuries. Even if Pecharunt never had any intentions of harming either Ogerpon or her trainer, it is responsible for all the misfortune of Ogerpon and her former trainer.
    • Pecharunt is indirectly the overarching antagonist of The Indigo Disk as well; Kieran's obsession with Ogerpon, as well as the player's and Carmine's lie to Kieran about Ogerpon showing up at the festival, thus causing Kieran to descend into madness and his actions during The Indigo Disk would have all been prevented had Pecharunt never stolen Ogerpon's masks and ruined her reputation to the people of Kitakami.
  • It is heavily implied that Pecharunt was related to the Loyal Three's Resurrection as a purple aura appears in Kieran's fist as he punches their shrine, with this aura being very similar to the aura surrounding the ones being controlled by Pecharunt.
  • Prior to its official reveal, Pecharunt can be barely seen partially off-screen during Ogerpon's story told by Carmine and Kieran's grandfather, right above Okidogi with its shell closed.
  • As Pecharunt's power is said to be able to draw out a person's innate desires and potential, it was assumed it was responsible for Kieran's aggressive behavior in The Teal Mask. Ironically, not only would this be proven false, but Kieran would be the only character other than the player to not be brainwashed by Pecharunt's mochi in the epilogue. That said, Pecharunt's powers might have increased Kieran's negative emotions, so while it didn't corrupt him, it may have made him worse.
  • Excluding Arceus holding a Toxic Plate, Pecharunt is the very first Poison type Mythical Pokémon.
    • It is also the shortest Mythical Pokémon at 0.3m tall.
  • Similar to how the Loyal Three are villainous inversions of the dog, monkey and pheasant of the tale, Pecharunt is a villainous inversion of the titular main protagonist of the Japanese fairy tale Momotaro, with its appearance of a small, child-like Pokémon hiding within a bisected peach referencing Momotaro being a boy found as a baby in a large peach.
    • On January 15th, a video titled "The Untold Story of Pecharunt" was released by the official Pokémon Youtube channel narrating the story from Pecharunt's point of view. It revealed that Pecharunt and the Loyal Three weren't actually as evil as "The Teal Mask" led players to believe. While their actions were still bad, they were rather misguided in their attempt to make Pecharunt's owners happy.
  • As each of the Loyal three have one base stat of 88, which can be read in Japanese as goroawase for やばい yabai, meaning several different things like “terrible” and “dangerous”, Pecharunt having 5 stats with a base of 88 emphasises a particularly wicked nature.
    • This shared stat of 88 could also represent the toxic chains each member possesses, with Pecharunt possessing 5 stats of 88 possibly representing the fact that it's the progenitor of these chains.
  • At level 88, Pecharunt ties with Red’s Pikachu for the highest levelled non-player Pokemon.
  • If you send out Ogerpon against it, she will recognize it and react with extreme distress and anger, yelling out "GRAH! Pon PON!!!" at Pecharunt, for everything it did to her and her companion in the past.
    • If you send out a member of the Loyal Three; Okidogi, Munkidori or Fezandipiti, against it, Pecharunt will react with shock and anger, yelling out "Pechaaa! Chraaahhh!" at it, likely for the betrayal as Pecharunt's retainers as they are now serving the player instead of itself.
      • Pecharunt will repeat this reaction every time each Loyal Three member is sent out for the first time.
  • Pecharunt is one of the few Mythical Pokémon to have a unique battle theme, alongside Mew, Deoxys and Arceus.
  • As the Mythical Pecha Berry, the item used to awaken it, was also a gift Pecharunt gave to its parents, it’s possible that the happy memories Pecharunt had of its family were what awakened it.
  • During the events of Mochi Mayhem, the Pokémon Center attendant outside the Community Center remains unpossessed and has dialogue regarding the "curse".
  • Pecharunt is guaranteed to always have the Timid Nature when caught.
