Mr. Dooter (Mr. Doubter in the Japanese version) is a minor antagonist in Kirby’s Return to Dream Land and its 2023 remake Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe. He is a magician-like alien who resides in the sandy region of Raisin Ruins, and guards the Lor Starcutter’s Right Wing.
Physical Appearance
Mr. Dooter’s body is similar in shape to a bowling pin with light blue skin and a face with simply two beady eyes. He has no feet or arms, and his hands float about with yellow cuffs. His attire is very similar to a genie; he wears a red vest with gold accents and purple, yellow and green pants, and he always seems to wear a turban that has a purple gem and a red, white and orange-yellow feather.
In his EX form, Mr. Dooter’s complexion turns to red, and his vest becomes black with different markings on them. His pants also turn black and dark blue, the gem on his turban becomes green and the feather on it becomes blue and yellow. His eyes also become fixated in an always angry expression, and he also gets a mustache over where his mouth would be.
Personality
Mr. Dooter is said to be an entertainer through his pause description in Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, as he is commonly shown juggling things (i.e. skulls, bombs, snakes, or balls), and when Mr. Dooter first appears, he attempts to make a dramatic entrance by revealing his body through his turban, but doesn’t show up until his fists furiously punch the turban and his body appears in a less than impressive puff of smoke. And in the remake, he can be found at Merry Magoland, putting on a juggling performance for the Waddle Dees. It is also implied that he has a short temper; Mr. Dooter EX’s body is red and he has a perpetual angry expression on his face, and his pause description in Deluxe emphasizes how aggressive he is now.
History
Kirby’s Return to Dream Land / Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe
Mr. Dooter appears as the boss of the second level of Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, Raisin Ruins. At some point prior to meeting him, he found the Lor Starcutter’s Right Wing and began guarding it for himself.
When Kirby and friends encounter him in a temple at Raisin Ruins, he attempts to make a dramatic appearance by revealing his body under his turban, but it doesn’t show until he hits his turban multiple times so it shows up through an unimpressive puff of smoke before beginning to fight. In battle, Mr. Dooter uses a series of magic-based attacks, such as tossing enemies, skulls and bombs that he summoned from thin air, and pulling out Red Snakes out of his hat. He also has a few melee-based attacks such as spinning like a tornado and attempting to stomp on Kirby. In his second phase, Mr. Dooter makes himself bigger and can now perform a series of strong punches and stomp on Kirby multiple times. Upon defeat, Mr. Dooter falls over and his turban pops off. He then explodes and leaves behind the Lor Starcutter’s Right Wing.

In Extra Mode, Mr. Dooter’s attacks now involve fiery properties to make them stronger and try to burn Kirby (his Dooter Skulls are now coated in flames and his punches can now set the floor in front of him on fire and up to the walls). He also gains a brand new attack where he tries to grab and juggle Kirby, where the player needs to shake the Wii remote (spin the Control Stick in the remake to get free.
In the remake, if the player manages to defeat Mr. Dooter, he will visit Merry Magoland, where he can be found putting on a juggling performance for an audience of Waddle Dees, suggesting that he no longer intends on hurting Kirby and his friends. This will also unlock two Dress-Up Masks of him in both his normal and EX forms, provided that the player has defeated him in both Story Mode and Extra Mode.

Trivia
- The way Mr. Dooter summons enemies from his turban is reminiscent of Wiz from Kirby & the Amazing Mirror. In fact, his Another Dimension counterpart in the remake’s Magolor Epilogue resembles Wiz even further.
- Mr. Dooter is heavily inspired by Japanese comedian Shopan Igari. He was infamous for dressing in an Arabian outfit and saying “Red Snake, come on!”, which would cause a red snake puppet to appear in front of him. The snake he pulls out of his turban in the game is even officially called Red Snake.
- Shopan also had other differently-colored snakes in his arsenal, which is referenced by Mr. Dooter’s other forms and counterparts (yellow snakes for his EX form, and green snakes for Electricky Dooter).
