Moley

You're going to bump into Moley in some underground caves. That burly guy has some mean little henchmen. One of them wears a spiked helmet. Don't go near those spikes!
~ Daroach informing Kirby on how to defeat Moley's henchmen in Kirby Mass Attack.

Moley is a minor antagonist in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror as the boss of Cabbage Cavern. He is a mischievous mole who sometimes stands in the way of Kirby's adventures.

Appearance

Moley is, as his name suggests, a large grey mole who has large red claws. His main accessories include glasses with red frames and black lenses and a red neckerchief. His bottom half is almost never seen.

Biography

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

K&TAM Moley Defeat

Moley makes his debut in this game as the boss of the second level, Cabbage Cavern. He is fought in a cave where the four Kirbys trek into and encounter Moley, who they do battle with. In battle, Moley burrows between the holes in the stage, requiring the Kirby to keep up with him to deal damage. His main way of attacking is to throw objects at Kirby. Most of these objects give Copy Abilities. The objects he throws are:

  • Fiery steel drum (Burning)
  • Buzzsaw (Cutter)
  • Tire (Wheel)
  • Big rock (Stone)
  • Small rock
  • Screw

Upon defeat, Moley flops over and gets dizzy, dropping the second shard of the Dimension Mirror.

Moley reappears in Kirby Mass Attack as the mid-boss in Stage 6 of Green Grounds. When the Kirbys are about to enter the Goal Door to complete the level, Moley digs out the ground and causes them to fall into a small arena with two holes on each wall. The battle with him has three phases: the first phase requires the Kirbys to take out his new minions, Mogmoles, which appear to throw bombs at them, and burrow back into their holes after a certain amount of time. After that, four more of them will appear, those two of them will be wearing spiked helmets, rendering them invincible. They only lose the helmets when the other two Mogmoles are defeated. After that, Moley himself will show up to fight the Kirbys alongside his minions, throwing bombs at them and burrowing between holes. After enough damage, Moley falls out of his hole and onto his head and explodes, defeating him.

Moley also appears as a boss in the sub-game Field Frenzy, alongside a robot version known as Robo Moley.

Trivia

  • Moley seems to be an organic counterpart to Heavy Mole from Kirby's Adventure. Not only is he a mole, but he is fought in a deep cave and even throws Heavy Mole's buzzsaws.
  • Moley is the only boss new to Kirby & The Amazing Mirror to reappear in a later Kirby game.
  • Kirby: Squeak Squad introduces a female counterpart to Moley, called Mrs. Moley. According to a Dedede Directory on the official Kirby JP Twitter account, they are revealed to be a married couple.
