Empress Hysteria is the Empress of the Machine Empire Baranoia, the wife of Emperor Bacchus Wrath, the mother of Prince Buldont, and a major antagonist in Chouriki Sentai Ohranger
She is voiced by the late Minori Matsushima.
Biography
Past
After Bacchus Wrath fled the Earth for the Baranoia Planet 65 million years ago, Hysteria was the first built by him and they married. Together, they built their "son" Prince Buldont and. with thier army of Barlo Soldiers and Machine Beasts, the Machine Empire Baranoia were able to conquer or destroy multiple planets. Despite these successes, Hysteria placed Princess Multiwa into stasis to keep her at the height of her power in the event she would be needed in the future. Eventually, the court jester Bomber the Great tried to overthrow Bacchus to become the Baranoia's new Emperor but was forced into exile after being defeated. With their other conquests, Bacchus Wrath did not pursue the traitor but Hysteria never forgot the traitor and feared that he would someday return.
Ohranger
Millions of years later, in 1995, Emperor Bacchus Wrath and his Empire return to Earth and launch an invasion of Earth where they rally thier forces but the Ohrangers arise to oppose them. After the Baranoia learn of the Chouriki Mobiles' construction, Acha and Kocha report this to Bacchus Wrath who freaks out but Hysteria reassures him that she sent Bara Brain to resolve the issue. Later, after Bara Brain recaptures Muira, she accompanies Acha and Kocha as well as Buldont to Earth where she tries to execute him only to be stopped by the arriving salvo from the completed Chouriki Mobiles.
After a fierce battle with the Ohrangers, Bacchus Wrath is easily destroyed by OhBlocker's Twin Blocken Crash so the Machine Empire prepare to rebuild him. However, before work can begin, Bomber the Great returns and takes control of the Machine Empire so Hysteria hides his still living remains on one of Jupiter's moons. After returning to the Baranoia Palace from his banishment, Buldont challenges him to a duel but is easily killed and sent away in a rocket with Hysteria. However, the rocket lands on the moon where Bacchus Wrath's remains are and the Emperor enhances his son into a stronger form at the cost of his own life.
After Buldont and his cousin Multiwa kill Bomber and marry to become Emperor and Empress, Hysteria assumes a form named Dowager Hysteria and retires to become merely an adviser to her son. After Buldont Jr is born, she becomes his doting grandmother and caregiver as Kaiser Buldont and Multiwa continue the war against the Ohrangers. Although they manage to conquer the Earth, they are eventually overthrown and killed before the Ohrangers storm the skyscraper that the Baranoia are using as a base of operations where they find Hysteria, Acha and Kocha and Buldont Jr. Although they decide that Hysteria is too dangerous to be kept alive, she reveals the baby and they can't bring themselves to kill the child who she gives to them. She then asks that they look after him before committing suicide with a bomb to atone for her actions. With Hysteria's death, the Machine Empire Baranoia is no more but the Ohrangers decide to keep thier promise. Gunmazin takes Buldont Jr to his home planet to raise the right way with help from the redeemed Acha and Kocha.

Empress Hysteria is initially a very cold hearted being who views love and kindness as pathetic, time wasting human concepts. Although naturally a cold and evil being, Hysteria is prone to mental breakdowns as her name suggests; having a full tantrum after the death of Bara Saucer. Hysteria is usually shown complaining about and acting superior to humans with any form of compassion or display of human emotion is often responded to by a complaint and evil plot. Hysteria’s disdain for humanity is so great that her plans are amongst the Baranoia’s most brutal; torturing babies and trying to poison Tokyo being just two of her plots. Despite this, she is shown to care about her husband and "son" and this only increases after Bacchus Wrath was defeated by OhBlocker. After retiring, she becomes more emotional and openly regretful of her past to the point that she eventually gave her life to atone for her actions and spare Buldont Jr.
Powers and Abilities
- Strength: Although very rarely shown, Empress Hysteria is rather strong; being able to jump kick Bacchus Wrath over when he fell asleep after Bara Gusuka’s death.
- Durability: Hysteria survived being shot by the Chouriki Mobiles' firepower as well as the devastating collapse of the Magna Enhancement cave without a scratch.
- Non-Ageing: Due to being a robot, Hysteria is unable to age.
- Super Hearing: As seen in the 2nd episode, Hysteria could hear children screaming in fear in Tokyo despite being in the Baranoia Palace on the Moon.
- Strategy: Hysteria is a skilled strategist, masterminding plans ranging from switching Kendama Robo with Bara Kendama to trying to regress humanity with Bara Faucet's Rainbow Diet Drink.
- Machine Beast Summoning: Hysteria summoned Bara Kendama just by calling its name.
- Power Bestowment: Hysteria was able to give all of her power to Multiwa, reducing her to a less powerful form; Dowager Hysteria.
- Childcare: After retiring, Hysteria expertly cares for Buldont Jr.
Weaknesses
- Sleep: As seen in the 30th episode, Empress Hysteria and the rest of her family can be put to sleep by Bara Gusuka’s powers.
Arsenal
- Fan: Although it had no offensive capabilities, Empress Hysteria is usually shown fanning herself with a metal fan throughout her appearances although she did try to hit Bomber the Great with it when he arrived. After stepping down as Empress, she is no longer seen with it.
- Blaster: Hysteria tries to kill Muira with a blaster but is unable to because of the Chouriki Mobiles’ arrival.
- Bomb: Dowager Hysteria ultimately killed herself with a small bomb to redeem herself.
