Dorothy

Dorothy (ドロシー, Doroshī), also known as Captain Dorothy (ドロシー艦長, Doroshī Kanchō), was a leading Alien Pedan in her planet's military and a character in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Adventure.

Conception

Etymology

Dorothy is named after Dorothy Anderson, a female scientist from Ultraseven who was once targeted and impersonated by Alien Pedan after discovering the secret of Pedanium and its way of countering it; Ryton R30. In fact, Captain Dorothy also shares the same hair color as that scientist.

Design

As with all characters in the manga, Dorothy was designed by Shinji Nishikawa. Her uniform, like the rest of the Alien Pedan army, are designed to resemble the vague silhouette of the two appearing Pedan from way back in Ultraseven while the helmet took inspiration from King Joe's chest lamps and antennae from the Showa Pedan. The "apron"-like attribute came from the fact that Alien Hook, Alien Ghose and Alien Shaplay also share these trait as well.^[1]

History

Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Adventure

Captain Dorothy was the leader of her squad who led the attack against the Alien Nackle race and their Black Kings. Within her spaceship, she and her men managed to get an Alien Nackle and his Black King under their captivity.

One day after picking up a King Joe signal belonging to the recently-deceased elderly Pedan, the team tracked it to the unnamed planet and discover his hut, as well as Io Mikura's wet clothes. Despite the young Reionics wishing to avoid detection, he revealed himself by accident when Yapool sends his Vakishim as part of their witch hunt against the Reionics. Io's Gomora was too exhausted to fight, so Dorothy sends out King Joe Black to kill the Terrible-Monster with a single shot. Impressed with Io's display as a Reionics and the fact that he created a grave marker to the deceased elderly Pedan out of respect, Dorothy brings the young boy and Pigmon into her ship, asking for his help in fighting the Nackles. Out of curiosity, Dorothy asked for Io's help to tame Black King with his Battlenizer, but the result proved futile. When Yapool ordered the Pedans to surrender Io, Dorothy refuses and sends King Joe Black to fight Ace Killer, resulting with the Terrible-Being losing its left arm and forced to retreat. At that same time, the commotion from said attack released the imprisoned Nackle to free Black King with his last breath, but thankfully, Io neutralized the situation by summoning Bemular to kill the monster.

Reporting to Pedan's ruler, Dorothy heed his order to study and mass produce Io's Battlenizer. A single artificial copy was made and she took it for her use. When the Nackles attack Planet Pedan with the aid of Yapool's Terrible Monsters, Dorothy went on board in the King Joe Scarlet and fights of EX Tyrant, using the Battlenizer copy to briefly control the monster into killing Nackle and their forces, but loses control and similarly suffering loses on her side as well. She suffered massive injury when her King Joe Scarlet received damages and reduced to its head unit, then bearing the massive brunt of EX Tyrant (Deathborn)'s weapon when it hit the robot's cockpit. With her last remaining energy, she uses the Pedanium Lancer to destroy Deathborn by piercing its forehead (skull) and programs her King Joe to en route to Earth. Dorothy reassured Io not to blame himself for the destruction of Planet Pedan, as it is in the nature of living beings to be at war with each others. Hearing his determination to end wars, she expresses her wish for young generations like Io to inherit a better future before she finally succumbs to her injury.

When Geranda diverged the King Joe Scarlet to Planet Aval, it crash landed near the planet's ZAP SPACY base. Most likely, her corpse was also left behind in that wreckage.

Powers and Weapons

• Combat Training: As with all members of Alien Pedan military, Dorothy was a skilled combatant and trained in piloting King Joe.
• Artificial Battlenizer: From the result of studying Io's Battlenizer, Dorothy uses an artificial copy made by the Pedan scientists to briefly manipulate EX Tyrant to her bidding.
• King Joe Scarlet: Dorothy pilots the King Joe Scarlet, as said machine is reserved for high ranking members of Alien Pedan military.

• Ironically, her decision to recruit Io to aid her people not only resulted with Yapool collaborating with the Nackles, as Io pointed out, this also ended with the destruction of Planet Pedan as well. Surviving Alien Pedan eventually decided that all Reionics are needed to be killed, hence setting forth the foundation of Reionics Hunter and their involvement in Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle: Never Ending Odyssey.
• Because the Mega Monster Battle: ULTRA MONSTERS made several changes to the manga, Dorothy was among the characters absent. The player (who assumed Io's role) and Pigmon were portrayed as kidnapped by the Pedans and crashed onto a planetoid after being attacked by a lone Nackle and his Black King. In addition, the player character boarded the head of a King Joe Black unit on their own, replacing Dorothy and her King Joe Scarlet's head.
