Deleted Scenes

Deleted Scenes are shots or sequences removed from productions for various reasons such as running-time limits, dialogue revising, or general lesser need for a story's plot. In TUGS, many scenes and alternative dialogue intended for episodes were either completely cut out or revised. One of the biggest reasons for the account of deleted scenes in TUGS came down to the shrinking intentioned run-time. Early in production, episodes were going to be 30 minutes long, but shortened down to 20 minutes before scripts were finalized. Some of the episodes would be edited to be 20 minutes long, four of which would be released onto VHS six months before airing on TV (Sunshine, Pirate, Regatta and Munitions), but would end up being cut down to 15 minutes when broadcasted on TV and released on VHS for the remaining nine episodes.

Details of these deleted scenes however, have managed to resurface over several years in many ways. The Picture Books adaptions of episodes are the most well known way these scenes have resurfaced, featuring text describing or featuring promotional pictures from these missing scenes. Some deleted scenes being found via promotional pictures on various pieces of merchandise, such as VHS releases or trading cards. Other deleted scenes were only learned about by production materials, such as scripts, shooting schedules, behind the scenes pictures, and production videos such as workprints or a sizzle reel.

Sunshine

Although the 20 minute cut of this episode was released, an alternate version of this episode has been proven to exist, containing various scenes not present in either the 20 or 15 minute cuts of the episode.

  • A first version of the opening sequence. One containing an extended version of a shot of the port at night, showing various tugs docked near buildings facing away from the camera, as Ten Cents passes by towing a fuel barge. It fades out to an extended morning shot of the camera panning out from various tugs working to the Star Fleet waiting at the Star Dock. Brief snippets from these two shots are featured in both the 20 and 15 minute cuts, and the footage for it featured in a sizzle reel made for the series. The 15 minute script for the episode also references this shot as the opening scene, referring to Scene 1 as taking place at night.
  • A second version of the opening sequence, containing a montage of various locations, Upriver sequences, action scenes, sunrise/sunset shots, various characters and buoys, all leading up the extended morning panning shot of the Star Tugs waiting. This version is mentioned in a handwritten script for the episode.
  • Zorran and Zak spying in on the Star Fleet's briefing, and grimace about how Captain Zero is not going to be happy about learning this news. Mentioned in the picture book adaption.
  • As originally mentioned in both Captain Star's first briefing, and by Hercules himself at the Coal Yard, he was supposed to be helping guide the Duchess into port from deep waters. These details are present in the handwritten script.
  • The first job Ten Cents and Sunshine do is move coal barges. Mentioned in picture book.
  • Zorran and Zak spot the Duchess' smoke from where Izzy Gomez is docked. Mentioned in the 15 minute script and the picture book.
  • An extended alternate version of the Z-Stacks briefing, taking place after the previous scene mentioned. Footage from this was reused for both the first and second Zero briefings present within the finalized 20 minute cut.
  • Zorran and Zip were going to be the ones to push Big Mac onto the mudflats, instead of Zip and Zug. Mentioned in the picture book.
  • Ten Cents and Sunshine try to pull Big Mac off the mudflats. Mentioned in the picture book.
  • The Z-Stacks are surrounding the Duchess when the Star Fleet go to meet her at the entrance of the harbor. They unwillingly depart to make way for the Stars when they arrive.
  • Zorran was to have extra dialogue after coming in to help the Stars ("Never trust a Switcher to do a real tug's job!"). Mentioned in the picture book
  • A scene taking place during the day after the Duchess Docking. Only referred to as "Scene 16" in a script to the 15 minute cut version of the episode.
  • An extended scene of Ten Cents worrying about Sunshine, where he and Top Hat's chat suddenly wakes Big Mac up from his sleep. This is mentioned in a script to the 15 minute version of the episode and seen in a behind the scenes picture.
  • Ten Cents looking around various locations for Sunshine, at some point passing Ballantine's and towing something next to him. Footage from these moments are repurposed when Ten Cents unknowingly approaches Izzy Gomez in the fog. Can be spotted within footage.
  • The Duchess' party was to be happening while Ten Cents was looking for Sunshine, as mentioned in the photobook. Ten Cents can also be seen encountering Hercules during the party, despite him not knowing he's back until meeting Lillie in the finalized 20 minute cut.
  • Sunshine wandering around in the fog in various locations, one of which is the Coal Yard. A single shot of this can be seen in the 15 minute cut.
  • As Sunshine heads back Up River, both his engine falters and his searchlight goes out. Mentioned in the picture book, likely the "Scene 27" mentioned in the 15 minute script, and "Scene 28" in the character and scene list.
  • Ten Cents has extra dialogue before he and others go out to find Sunshine ("If it wasn't Sunshine's fault, then we all owe him an apology."). O.J. also has some alternate dialogue ("My engine's playing up again, so I'll stay here and tell Captain Star."). Mentioned in the picture book.
  • The Star Fleet heads Up River, calling out Sunshine's name. When they find Sunshine, he's found with the water up to his eyes as he slowly sinks. Mentioned in the picture book.
  • An alternate version of the episode's ending. Photos from this version are seen within behind the scenes pictures that were taken during a 1987 Christmas party the crew had, with Ten Cents and Sunshine wearing faces resembling creators Robert D. Cardona and David Mitton respectively.

Trapped

  • Big Mac and O.J. at Mittsville with empty barges. From the shooting schedule.
  • Sunshine and Top Hat are the first Star Fleet tugs to arrive at the sawmill, with Zip and Zak already loaded with timber. The Stars line up as the Z-Stacks head downriver. Mentioned in the photobook.
  • Zak and Zip, with loaded barges, run into Zorran at Mittsville before they meet Zug (explaining Zak's line; "Zorran's going mad waiting for you"). Mentioned in both the shooting schedule and seen in a promotional picture from the picture book.
  • Three deleted scenes that are unknown besides their missing scene numbers from a shooting schedule. Those being scenes 5, 6, and 11.
  • Extended scene of Big Mac and O.J. arriving at the sawmills, a railbridge appearing with an engine being present. From the shooting schedule.
  • Big Mac and O.J. leaving the sawmill with their timber. Mentioned in the shooting schedule and seen in a promotional picture in the picture book.
  • Zug has alternate dialogue when he explains what happened to Sunshine and Top Hat ("Zorran pushed the tramper out of line and I couldn't hold it.").
  • A scene of Top Hat and Zug alone at the tramper, after Ten Cents finds out about the tramper through Zorran. Mentioned in the shooting schedule.
  • An additional scene of Sunshine and Billy alone Upriver. Mentioned in the shooting schedule.
  • Big Mac and O.J. have some alternate dialogue when they're first seen at the blockage (Big Mac; "Wait till the railroad people hear about this. They'll steal more of our freight!" O.J.; "First we got to get this clear!")
  • Zorran runs into Zip and Zak well down river, their barges now empty, taking place before he decides to head back to the tramper. Mentioned in the shooting schedule.
  • Big Mac has some unused dialogue when Billy firsts set up the dynamite ("Blow us all sky-high, more like,").
  • There is some alternate dialogue from O.J. before Billy blows up the tramper ("Look Big Mac, it's already a disaster. We're trapped up here and things can't get much much worse. What have we got to lose?")
  • A scene with Ten Cents pulling Little Ditcher and Zorran, heading in the direction of the tramper. Mentioned in the shooting schedule and in a promotional picture in the picture book.

Regatta (original title; Fourth of July)

Although the 20 minute cut of this episode was released, an original script for the episode titled "Fourth of July" features some extended and cut scenes not present within either 20 or 15 minute cuts. This script has been preserved by TUGS: The Exhibition.

  • A gloomy Lillie Lightship remembering what "that delicious" Hercules said about her being special for guiding ships away from the rocks.
  • Lillie was to have dialogue when the tramper rushes towards the rocks.
  • There was supposed to be dialogue when we first cut to the Star Dock, with Ten Cents and Warrior beckoning Top Hat to raise his head up and down again, with Top Hat complying.
  • After Captain Star tells Ten Cents and O.J. to go help Lillie, O.J. tells Ten Cents outside the Star Pier that he'll meet him out at Lillie after Ten Cents gets the timber.
  • After the previous scene mentioned, Captain Star tells the tugs their jobs for the day: Top Hat with car ferries, Warrior with garbage, Sunshine to collect the special barges, and Big Mac to take cement barges to the Naval Yard, with Ten Cents to later join him.
  • After Ten Cents demands that he needs the timber barge, Zorran decides to let him have it. Afterwards, Zorran scolds Zip for not paying attention.
  • After Grampus makes his remark about the Navy at Lucky's Yard, Lillie has an extra piece of dialogue ("I wish I could do more than just say thank you to them all.").
  • Ten Cents and Big Mac have some extra dialogue before Bluenose comes along, with Big Mac asking Ten Cents to tell him more about that morning.
  • After O.J. tells Ten Cents that they'll need to move fast, Top Hat as an alternate piece of dialogue ("Get on with your work."). Right after O.J. tells Top Hat that they'll need him as well, Sunshine was to follow up with a piece of cut dialogue ("And get on with your work as well."). In the final 20 minute cut, Sunshine only makes a brief cameo at the end of a shot, cutting away as Sunshine's fender appears on screen.
  • Right after the previous scene mentioned, Zorran, Zug and Zip make remarks about Lillie being in dry dock, and thinking that she deserves it. Zip then spots Ten Cents heading towards them again.
  • Ten Cents tells Zorran that he needs the logs for naval purposes. After Zorran questions this, Ten Cents offers Zorran two of his barges for the logs, in which Zorran takes the deal. The three are now more suspicious of Ten Cents, and decide to follow him.
  • After the logs are blown up, the tugs cheer about saving Grampus ("We've made it. Grampus, you're saved.").
  • At some point during the Regatta Parade, Warrior messes up the procession.
  • That night, after the Regatta Parade, Warrior apologizes about messing up, with Top Hat not minding it after having a wonderful day. O.J. then tells them they have one last thing to do, where they follow him to Lucky's Yard. In both final cuts, footage of this scene is mixed in the final scene at Lucky's Yard.

Warrior (original title; Warrior's Longest Day)

Despite being released as a 15 minute cut, a workprint of the extended cut of Warrior (with its original title) is owned by TUGS: The Exhibition, who has shown it privately to patrons at their special events. In October of 2022, footage of the workprint leaked online. The picture book adaptation of Warrior (also with its original title) is seemingly based on a slightly early draft of the extended cut.

  • A deleted opening scene where Warrior pulls up next to a coal dust covered Big Mac, with the two talking about the rock contract and Big Mac going for a washdown (Warrior: "I've been up since 3 'o' Clock this morning").
  • Izzy Gomez has some alternate dialogue when Warrior asks if he wants a tow ("I have all thees' daylight and the sea, she calmer than mañana.")
  • Zip challenges Ten Cents to a strength contest in pulling down the old buildings. He convinces Ten Cents to go first, where he fails to pull it down, leaving him worn out. When Zip tries, the building falls down for him (this is because Ten Cents managed to loosen the superstructure, which was Zip's plan all along), with him claiming a petty victory. Footage from this is briefly used for various scenes in the final cut.
  • Sunshine and Pearl having some general chatter before Warrior arrives.
  • When Warrior leaves the Estuary (originally called the Oyster Beds), he passes by Top Hat and Lord Stinker, approaching Sunshine. Top Hat complaining about Warrior's clumsiness, and asking why Captain Star keeps him around. Sunshine points out that without Warrior, Top Hat would be stuck with garbage work more often. Top Hat, embarrassed, complains as usual.
  • An early version of the scene above, where Warrior leaves, and long tow rope causes the barge to nearly hit Sunshine and Pearl, who reverse just in time to avoid the barge hitting them. It does end up snapping one of Little Ditcher's legs. Afterwards, Top Hat comes in, with Lord Stinker. He complains about Warrior's clumsiness and that Captain Star should fire him. This can be seen in the picture book.
  • A montage of Warrior doing a couple of jobs before he heads back to the Quarry, one shot of which being an alternate angle from High Tide.
  • Early version of the Z-Stacks passing Izzy Gomez, where Zorran startles him by saying they're the dock police. Can be seen in the picture book.
  • A deleted shot of Izzy's bow, as he sets off into port on his own.
  • At some point, Grampus tells Warrior that Captain Star wants to see him. Can be seen in the photobook, but absent in the 20 minute cut workprint.
  • When Grampus surfaces next to Big Mac, he has some dialogue not heard in either the workprint or final episode ("I think Warrior's in trouble. Captain Star told me to send him in."). This is featured in the picture book.
  • Zak was originally going to have a speaking role in the episode ("Wouldn't need much of a wave to sink it..."). Seen in the picture book.
  • After Zebedee comments on how devious Zorran's plan is, Zebedee and Zak tell Zorran that they need to go fill up on water, with Zorran scolding the two for not doing it earlier.
  • Zug has some alternate dialogue after Zip says they need to help Ten Cents ("Exactly. He'll get into a mess and then we can rescue both of them and get twice the reward!"). Zip is impressed by his craftiness.
  • At the Star Dock, Captain Star tells Warrior to be more careful and to not cause anymore accidents. Can be seen in the picture book, but absent in the 20 minute cut workprint.
  • After Big Mac's barge sinks, Grampus resurfaces, saying that the load has been lost and that it was coming back up. It resurfaces right underneath Big Mac, getting him stuck on the barge ("Help me off'a this thing!").
  • Lord Stinker was originally going to have a line of retaliation after Izzy Gomez complains about his smell ("Ugh, you can talk! Rotting melons!").
  • Grampus and Warrior try to pull Big Mac off the barge, when the Coast Guard comes along. After some encouragement from Big Mac, Warrior goes off to help Ten Cents.
  • An extended scene of Ten Cents and Top Hat trying to keep Izzy upright before another rope snaps.
  • The Coast Guard has some alternate dialogue when he tells Izzy Gomez about his fine ("Coming in without a tow means a $500 fine!").

High Tide (original title; Railhead)

  • Deleted scene of Zip, Zug and Zebedee at the port inlet, with Izzy Gomez present. Bits of this scene is only briefly seen in the final cut, and used for the episode Munitions.
  • Deleted scene of Ten Cents and Big Mac at the Coal Yard; an early script draft revealed that the scene would've also included Jack the Grappler, as well as introduce Snatcher and Little Owl (coming in to fill up on coal). A shot from this sequence is briefly seen in the final episode as well as reused for the opening sequence of the episode Sunshine.
  • Deleted scene of Top Hat with Frank and Eddie, taking place before they go through the canal.
  • Top Hat and Zebedee next to each other at the Liner Dock, with Lord Stinker and Little Owl close by them (a shot of Lord Stinker and Little Owl is used in the final cut).
  • Deleted scene of Ten Cents and Sunshine seeing the aftermath of the bridge accident with Top Hat and Zebedee.

Quarantine

This episode currently has four known versions of the episode with alternate content from its final 15 minute cut.

One version as a subplot of an early script for Railhead, where Ten Cents and Sunshine help an out-of-control launch. As Sunshine takes the launch back to dock, Ten Cents goes with O.J. to try and beat the Z-Stacks to the Schooners.

Another version is the sticker book, O.J.'s Bad Day, where Burke and Blair try to convince Captain Star to sell O.J. to them for scrap when his engine starts acting up. Ten Cents meanwhile saves O.J. from being hit by a ferry, and O.J. saving Ten Cents from sinking with his now broken barge.

The third version is the annual story adaptation, where Ten Cents, Sunshine and O.J. are awaiting ships to be cleared from the harbor mouth, with Zorran spying on them. O.J. send Sunshine to look out for any ships, and he runs into Nantucket, who puts his checkered flags down as he arrives. Zorran suddenly thens speeds past Sunshine to Nantucket. Confused, Sunshine reports this to the Coast Guard, and later tells the others about it at the Star Dock.

The fourth version would be the final version of the episode that was actually filmed, and in its original 20 minute length. Any scripts from this version have yet to surfaced, with only shooting schedules and pictures of it publicly available.

These following scenes are taken from the sub-plot version in the Railhead script:

  • Ten Cents and Sunshine notice an out-of-control launch out in the bay, heading towards a ferry. The two switchers would've safely guided it to shore, landing and stalling on a mudbank, to the praise of the ferry (promising to tell everyone and the authorities of their bravery). Sunshine is told to take the launch back to the dock, while Ten Cents goes to meet O.J.
  • The rescue would've made Ten Cents late for schooner pickups, to the frustration of O.J.; he warms up after noticing how disappointed he was and after hearing the ferry rescue.
  • Zorran would've had Zip and Zug come along, and all three would've been quarantined for twenty-four hours after buttoning onto a quarantined schooner.

These following scenes are taken from O.J.'s Bad Day:

  • O.J.'s engine failing near the Fultan Ferry, happens in front of a liner, with Ten Cents pushing him out of the way, just as it hits his barge. Ten Cents and his barge start to sink.
  • Meanwhile, Burke and Blair have their first go to Captain Star. Top Hat is present, who seems to be in protest of the idea. Captain Star says he’ll think about it.
  • As Ten Cents starts sinking rapidly and he can’t cut his rope free. O.J.’s engine starts to work again, and he shoots forward, cutting the rope just in time before the barge sinks.
  • Burke and Blair are already present at the Star Dock when Ten Cents and O.J. arrive.

These following scenes are taken from the annual story:

  • O.J. warning Ten Cents and Sunshine to keep clear of all ships, with Zorran watching in on them.
  • Sunshine, after waiting awhile with O.J., decides to go out and see if any ships have gotten any clearance, with Zorran watching and deciding to follow.
  • When Sunshine goes out to find a tramper to pull in, Zorran decides to speed past him to Nantucket first, making rude remarks to Sunshine.
  • On his way back, Sunshine asks the Coast Guard if Nantucket was given clearance, where he finds out that he's still waiting for inspection.
  • Sunshine meets back up with O.J. and laughs to him about Zorran very likely landing himself in quarantine.

The following scenes were actually filmed for Quarantine, but due to most of these originating from shooting schedules only listing character props, it leaves out the contexts of these scenes, leaving it only up to speculation as to what context most of these scenes had.

  • An extended briefing scene which would've featured Big Mac. A close-up shot of O.J. may have been reused in the 20 minute cut of Sunshine.
  • Top Hat and Warrior right next to Kraka-Toa, who has one side of her hull heavily burnt after the fire in Munitions.
  • A scene with Sunshine and the Coast Guard interacting, being near to where the Schooners are at.
  • Two more scenes at the Ferry Pier after the Fultan Ferry sinks, one of which has Grampus appear before the Fire Chief arrives.
  • After the Fultan Ferry sinks, Burke and Blair pass by and make their way to the Star Dock. Three shots of this scene were reused in the finale episode.
  • A second scene of Burke and Blair at the Star Dock, with no presence from any of the Star Tugs.
  • A deleted shot of Ten Cents with an angry expression, with rope on his deck and Sunshine with a shocked expression.
  • Several scenes with more appearances of Warrior and Big Mac, as well as a handful for Zip.

Ghosts (original title; Ghost Fleet)

  • Zorran and Zak interacting with Big Mac during the day (likely teasing him about his ghosts). Mentioned in a shooting schedule.
  • Warrior comes back to the mudflats where the Shrimpers are stranded. Promotional picture featured in the picture book.
  • An extended version of the scene of Zorran spotting Izzy trying to sneak into port, with Davy Jones making an appearance. Mentioned in a shooting schedule.
  • An extended version of O.J.’s ghost encounter, with the Schooners and Davy Jones making an appearance at some point (likely would’ve been seen before O.J. heads towards the crane inlet). Mentioned in a shooting schedule.
  • A scene of Top Hat with various small boats somewhere near the Star/Zero piers and passing by a fog buoy at some point before his encounter with the White Fleet. Mentioned in a shooting schedule and seen in a promotional picture in the picture book.
  • A shot of the drawbridge at night, with fog present and Top Hat nowhere to be seen. This shot would be reused as apart of the intro only on the English VHS releases of the officially released 20 minute episodes.
  • When O.J. is going through the Crane Inlet, he sees a ghostly lookalike of Big Mickey named Snatcher. When he looks at the crane again, the face has disappeared.
  • The White Fleet passing by the Star Dock after Burke and Blair pass by with the Galleon. Mentioned in the picture book.

Jinxed (original title; Jinxed Tug)

Although Jinxed was only released as a 15 minute cut, some deleted scenes from the extended cut were featured within a Sizzle Reel made for the series. Additionally, the picture book adaptation of Jinxed is seemingly based on a slightly early draft of the extended cut.

  • When Ten Cents and Sunshine attempt to take Boomer into Port, Boomer gives more protests about being taken to Port.
  • When Ten Cents' line on Boomer unties, Sunshine was to have a piece of dialogue ("Ten Cents! Your tow rope is loose!"). Sunshine's whistle alerting Ten Cents is still present within the final episode.
  • Ten Cents was to back up towards Boomer and Sunshine after his towrope on Boomer falls into the sea.
  • Ten Cents and Sunshine enter the Port with Boomer, with Sunshine asking him to let him know if another jinx comes along.
  • Boomer's engine doesn't start on his first attempt to get it working.
  • When Boomer's engine starts to smoke, it was due to a fire starting from below his deck. Sunshine also has some alternate dialogue ("Well look at that. The fire's just disappeared.").
  • Sunshine tries to tell Captain Star about Boomer's jinx, but Ten Cents tells him not to, fearing Boomer may be scrapped thanks to Star being superstitious.
  • As Ten Cents and Sunshine try towing Boomer to Lucky's Yard, Boomer starts to slowly sink in the water. They try to move further, but Boomer ends up sinking shortly after, Ten Cents and Sunshine remove their lines on him.
  • Sunshine has some alternate dialogue when Boomer lands on a sunken barge ("He's come to rest on the old rubbish barge that sank a few weeks ago,").
  • Bluenose would appear after Boomer sinks, complaining about him being in front of the Naval Yard. A Behind the Scenes image of several models on standby shows Bluenose amongst them, with his hull below his fender painted black.
  • Unused shot of Ten Cents approaching Boomer with his smirking face.
  • Deleted shot of Sunshine looking at Boomer with disgust.
  • Several deleted angles of Boomer being surrounded by cranes.
  • A deleted shot showing Big Mac and Warrior present with the floating cranes as Boomer is being rescued from sinking. This can be found in a Castle Vision VHS advertisement and in the photo book. More footage from this scene was used in the Sizzle Reel version of the intro.
  • A shot of Ten Cents calling to Sunshine at night before they start the manoeuvre to Lucky's Yard.
  • Zip and Zug watch Boomer being taken to Lucky's Yard and make antagonistic remarks about him and the Stars.
  • During the accident at Lucky's Yard, Mighty Mo's engine starts up again and lowers Boomer back into the water.
  • A scene taking place during the aftermath of the accident at Lucky's Yard the next morning. This scene appears in the photobook. There are also alternative angles of the scene, with one scene focusing on a buoy before the camera moves to the wreck. This shot can be found in the Sizzle Reel.
  • Some days later after the accident at Lucky's Yard, Captain Star has a briefing with his tugs informing them that he'd lent Boomer to Captain Zero. He also revealed the reason why Boomer sank was because his stopcocks were left wide open and there was nothing found wrong with his engine. A shot from this scene is reused in the intro for the 15 minute cuts.
  • Boomer is sent to work with Big Mickey at the ironworks as Ten Cents and Sunshine pass by. Ten Cents whistles to Boomer as he pushes a barge towards Big Mickey just as he's lifting a huge load of steel girders. Big Mickey's engine suddenly hiccups, which causes his hawser to snap and drop the load. The heavy load damages the barge and sinks it.
  • Boomer's jinx causes him to lose control of Izzy and ram him, sending him crashing into a dock with a little yellow warehouse and a fuel barge, causing an explosion. Footage from this scene can be found in the Sizzle Reel.
  • Zip and Zug were to tease Boomer in unison as he leaves, instead of Zak. This is still referenced in the 15 minute script.
  • After the previous scene, Sunshine tells Boomer not to take any notice of the Z-Stacks.
  • Before Ten Cents and Sunshine test out Sunshine's theory that Ten Cents' whistle causes Boomer's jinx, Boomer tells them that Captain Star had ordered him to be a standby fog horn.
  • After the previous scene, there was to be a montage of various ships crashing into each other during the foggy night.
  • The following morning, Captain Star has a briefing with his tugs, where he tells them that the Duchess is to be docked later that day.
  • Ten Cents, Sunshine, Big Mac and O.J. enconuter the Fire Tug as he sets out to bring in Boomer and the schooner. Ten Cents and Sunshine attempt to follow the Fire Tug, but Big Mac and O.J. stop them.
  • When Sunshine takes Boomer back to Lucky's Yard, he says goodbye, calling Boomer "old friend". Boomer replies with a toot of his whistle.
  • An extended version of Boomer's trip to Dun Tuggin', with them passing other tugs along the way.

High Winds

  • Captain Zero has a briefing with his tugs, ordering them to look for salvage work. He also tells them that Johnny Cuba is coming into Bigg City Port and orders them not to do any dealings with him.
  • Ten Cents and Sunshine deliver fuel to Lillie Lightship, who draws their attention to Johnny Cuba anchored nearby and remarks that he doesn't seem sociable. Sunshine approaches Johnny and offers him a tow, but Johnny tells Sunshine to scram. Sunshine quickly moves away, but was unaware that the Coast Guard had been watching him. The footage from this scene was reused and redubbed for Regatta’s opening (Furthermore proven by an early script of it displayed, showing the episode was initially supposed to open directly with Lillie mentioning how special Hercules said she was for guiding ships away from the rocks).
  • As Ten Cents and Sunshine head back to the harbour mouth, the Coast Guard catches up with them and asks Sunshine what his business was with Johnny Cuba. Not knowing much about Johnny, Ten Cents and Sunshine ask the Coast Guard if he was in some kind of trouble. The Coast Guard tells them that he believes Johnny was on one of his smuggling runs, but had nothing definite on him and couldn't search him because he was outside the harbour limits. As the Coast Guard heads back to keep an eye on Johnny, O.J. steams up to Ten Cents and Sunshine and orders them to pick up Scuttlebutt Pete to clear the bay for ships that need shelter.
  • Warrior tows Sally Seaplane back to her hanger when the wind becomes too strong for her to fly. She tells Warrior she saw Hercules towing in the Princess Alice.
  • Zebedee was to have extra dialogue after asking Ten Cents why he should help keep Scuttlebutt Pete steady ("Zorran'll kill me.").
  • When Zebedee heads to the estuary a second time to look for salvage work, he spots Princess Alice in the distance before he hears the Coast Guard crying for help.
  • While docking Princess Alice, O.J. sounds an emergency whistle for help.
  • After Johnny Cuba is taken to the authorities, Captain Zero scolds Zebedee for helping the Star Tugs with Princess Alice. Then he scolds his other tugs for not getting any salvage work and orders them to get out of his sight. Before the Z-Stacks leave, the Coast Guard arrives and tells Captain Zero he wants to talk to him about Johnny Cuba. Captain Zero tells the Coast Guard that he'd ordered his tugs to stay away from Johnny, but the Coast Guard informs him that Zebedee hadn't. This makes Captain Zero angry, and is about to tell Zebedee off for disobeying his orders when the Coast Guard informs him that Zebedee and Hercules had brought Johnny Cuba in and because of that he assumed that Captain Zero had nothing to do with Johnny. Captain Zero immediately changes his tune and claims that he was just saying that Zebedee was a credit to his fleet. The Coast Guard then thanks Zebedee for his help and heads off across the harbour.
  • A shot of a ship and a bridge in the sunset, but Zebedee is not shown. Reused in Jinxed and Quarantine. Also, in the Quarantine version of the shot, the fender of Ten Cents is shown at end.

Up River (original title; Upriver Operations)

  • A scene with Sunshine and Billy Shoepack that would've likely taken place during the beginning of the episode. Seen in a behind the scenes picture.
  • After the previous scene, one with O.J. and Top Hat at Uptown. Mentioned in a shooting schedule.
  • And after that previous scene, one back at the below Uptown location, with Little Ditcher breaking away at some point (likely due to Warrior) and Zug teasing about it (Zak and Zip are also there and likely acting antagonistic towards Warrior). Mentioned in a shooting schedule.
  • Several pieces of alternate and cut dialogue from scenes taking place at the Lake where Big Mac and Sunshine are working. Featured in the picture book.
  • A deleted shot of Ten Cents puffing away from the pier near the railway in the direction of the Lake. Seen in a promotional picture in the picture book.
  • A scene with only Warrior and Little Ditcher, now being at Uptown. Mentioned in a shooting schedule.
  • Puffa has some dialogue while rushing to Up Town. Seen in the picture book.
  • A scene with Warrior, Little Ditcher, and Top Hat at Uptown. Mentioned in a shooting schedule.
  • More scenes of the logs causing destruction, with Ten Cents, Big Mac and Sunshine following after the logs. Mentioned in a shooting schedule.
  • An extended scene of the aftermath of the warehouse's destruction. A close up shot of Sunshine that was cut from this scene can be seen in a promotional picture in the picture book.

Bigg Freeze (original title; Bigg City Freeze)

  • A scene with Top Hat and Big Mac, with the former complaining about pulling barges.
  • It’s mentioned that Zip didn’t hear the conversation properly, a detail not mentioned in the final cut.
  • While towing his newly found barge, Warrior passes by Zip and Zug and they tease him about being clumsy.
  • Sunshine mentions escaping during high tide earlier than in the final cut.
  • An extended version of Hercules greeting the S.S. Vienna, where he tells her that there's no problems to worry about.
  • The scene of the tugs trying to think of any idea and Warrior lighting his barge on fire comes in earlier in the final episode.
  • Top Hat outright says that it’s a stupid idea for Warrior to set his garbage on fire, with Warrior saying; “It was only a suggestion.”
  • Ten Cents and Sunshine with the light barge during sunset, with Zorran.
  • At some point Sea Rogue reports to the Fire Chief about Zip and Zug using a fire barge to trap Ten Cents and Sunshine (Explaining his quote in the final cut "That's not what I heard").
