Muddy Thomas

Muddy Thomas is the third short of the Short Story Adventures series.

Plot

Thomas is finishing up a wash at the Tidmouth Sheds water tower, and as he admires himself, Carly arrives to tell Sandy it is her turn, but the rail speeder refuses, and attempts to flee before Carly hooks her. She later makes a bet with Thomas; if he manages to stay clean after delivering pigs, she will wash off. Confident that he will win, Thomas accepts the challenge and makes it to the farm, only for the pigs to send him pummelling into the mud. He then returns to Diesel, and decides to be honest to Sandy, who had spotted him prior. As she prepares to gloat, Sandy accidentally sends the turntable into overdrive, sending Thomas spinning rapidly and making the mud fly off until he is spotless once more... at the cost of splattering it on Diesel, Carly and Sandy. This time, though, Sandy voluntarily washes up... on the condition that she does so by spinning on the turntable.

Trivia

• Thomas spinning around on the turntable is similar to James in the first series episode, Tenders and Turntables from the original television series.
• Despite being controlled by willpower in the Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go first series episode Thomas Blasts Off, the turntable is revealed to also operate on a lever outside the sheds.
• This short establishes that the engines wash themselves at a water tower in a method similar to a human taking a bath/shower (to further this point, Thomas is seen with a rubber ducky at the start of the short). This contrasts to the original series, where the engines are usually scrubbed and hosed by workmen.
• The intro at the beginning of the short is reused from the second Short Story Adventures short, Diesel's Rules.
• This is the first short to feature Thomas outside of the intro.
