A Change of Plans is a magazine story. The first part of this story is titled Narrow Gauge.
Plot
Percy is upset when he learns that the park manager has installed narrow gauge track at the park and begins to believe the manager never wanted him to run the line in the first place. His driver tries to soothe him, but Percy is too cross.
When Percy gets to the station by the park, he does not even greet the park manager. The park manager is going to see the Fat Controller at main station, but Percy never lets him explain. He does, however, notice him enter the Fat Controller's office. Percy speculates that he is going to enquire about getting a narrow gauge engine to do the job. His driver again tries to convince him that it was a mistake, however Percy is still cross and bumps the trucks at the harbour.
A few days later, Percy passes the wildlife park again, however cannot enjoy it as he is still cross. When he arrives at the station, he hears the workmen working on the track and sees the park manager but does not want to talk to him. The park manager instead talks to his driver and tells him that he has been able to make a few changes with the help of the Fat Controller. Percy butts in that he has probably found a narrow gauge engine to do the job, however the park manager explains that instead he has had the track relaid at standard gauge to accommodate Percy. Percy is surprised that the park manager still wants him to be the park's engine and feels sorry for doubting him.
When the new track is completed, the park manager holds a special opening ceremony and Percy is the first engine to run on the new rails. The Fat Controller allows Percy to work at the park every weekend and Percy is very happy.
