Description

Slinger is the first obtainable tower and is given to the player for free. Due to it being a starter tower, it has overall low stats, possessing low damage, low cost, and medium range. Slinger attacks in a single-target manner, but its projectiles can hit multiple enemies on X-3 and X-4. It can buff other Slingers in its range at 4-X. The buff can stack up to 25%.

Slinger doesn't have any defense piercing.

Appearance

The Slinger has a brown torso and legs, it wears a red headband and jacket with white sleeves. It has a light-yellow skin tone and wields a slingshot in its left hand.

Lore

"Seriously? A slingshot? This is the best our R&D department came up with? Throwing rocks at people? That may sound like a joke, but the concept was very real. Using a slingshot and various pebbles, this unit could cause some major damage, such as minor scrapes, bruises, and... Well, listen. Obviously, the Slinger wasn't gonna make it past the 'elevator pitch' phase, but there is actually a very real reason why you're looking at one right now. And no, it's not because they're strong. It's propaganda. For whatever reason, the Slinger because the icon of the globe, a symbol for the great might of the military that preceded (and let to) the UEC. You couldn't walk a block without seeing his smiling face. What other reason? Lobbyists and marketers sought the potential for greater revenue by implementing the Slinger into select few parts of war that could boost morale. This backfired, as most people criticized the government for foolishly arming people with slingshots - and stealing the jobs of many pistol wielding heroes. Thus, the Slinger didn't see much use outside of news footage and media."

Tactics

  • Placing a lot of 0-2 Slingers is more efficient than placing several 0-0/X-3/X-4/X-5. However, it is less cost efficient than 0-0 if an enemy has defense as Slinger does not have any defense pierce.
  • Place 5 4-X and 2 5-X Slingers in a group to buff other Slingers.
  • The Slinger can reach a firerate boost of 215% with 5 4-X Slingers, 2 5-X Slingers, 4-X and X-4 Bugler using snare drums and direct power, making the Slinger shoot over thrice as fast.
    • This however only increases a 2-5 Slinger’s DPS to ~51.26, which is not worth it.
  • Due to Slinger having the cheapest placement cost and highest placement limit of any tower, it is often used as "bait" alongside Market for bosses such as Saber Champion and Robotic Overseer to use their stuns on, which could prevent other towers from being stunned. Note that the bait does not always guaranteed to work.
  • This tower is only effective in the early game as it falls off quite quickly.

Trivia

  • The Slinger was a replacement for Conscript during the Blissful Revelations update.
    • The Slinger's 2009 skin was actually carried over from the Conscript.
    • In the game's code (visible by pressing F9) the Slinger is still labeled as Conscript, similar to Vulcan being referred to as Mounted Minigun, its pre rework name.
  • It has the highest placement limit of 40.
  • The Undead skin for Slinger is one of the only two skins that has a sad face for the tower, the other one being Black Ops Freezer.
  • The Slinger is the second tower to have fifth tier upgrade, the first being Recon Base
    • Previously, unlike the Recon Base, Slinger's Tier 5 upgrades were automatically unlocked without the need for quests.
      • During the Eternal Update, completing Tier 5 quests is now required to unlock Slinger's Tier 5 upgrades, however they are significantly easier and do not have a challenge unlike other Tier 5 upgrades.
  • In solo, it is impossible to get more than 32 5-X Slingers with the Wealthy modifier, as the costs increases exponentially by 40%.
    • By the time you gain the 32nd 5-X Slinger which costs Cash 242,014,323, you would not have enough money to purchase the 33rd upgrade as it costs a grand total of Cash 338,820,052.
      • This makes the 32nd 5-X Slinger the most expensive upgrade in the whole game when considering exponential cost increase for all T5 upgrades. [1]
        • In comparison to other final T5 upgrade costs, excluding other T5 Slinger upgrades with the cost increase, the 8th 5-X Electricizer comes at Cash 2,635,337, the 6th 5-X Lightbeamer at Cash 752,953, the 3rd X-5 Recon Base at Cash 255,150 and finally, the 3rd 5-X Recon Base at Cash 123,500.[2]
          • Do note that this information is based on a solo playthrough, as the T5 cost increase is global and other players even may get higher prices.
      • As the maximum placement cap for Slinger is 40, the price for this theoretical 40th Slinger would cost a whopping Cash 5,000,279,261, surpassing the amount given to players with Wealthy modifier.
