Jean is a main character in the series The Rain. While travelling with Beatrice and Lea, they are cornered by Martin and Patrick who intend to rob them, but let them join the group. They continue to rob other survivors until they come across Simone and Rasmus and set out to help them.
History
Soon after the rain first starts falling, Jean loses his own family. He is taken in by a small family of three after they rescued him from an allergic attack. The daughter, a young deaf girl, takes an immediate liking to him. However, a violent and rabid paramilitary group comes to the farm and shoots the father. Jean and the girl hide in the barn. The girl tries to scream and cry, so Jean clamps a hand over her mouth. Then the mother gets out of the house and is dragged off. Shocked and disoriented, Jean gets up, only to realise he's accidentally suffocated the girl. Lea and Beatrice find him standing over their graves, grief-stricken. They take him with them, and he brings the girl's unicorn necklace with him, which he is shown to still own in the present day.

"Avoid Contact"
Jean continued with the group after escaping from Apollon soldiers. En route to coordinates from Frederik Andersen, Jean discovered an unusual tree surrounded by corpses. Here they discovered scientists and went back with them to their base, where the scientists mistook him and Lea for a couple. Sheepish, Jean tried to broach the subject of becoming a couple, but couldn't express himself properly. He tried again later, so Lea bluntly told him she would be his girlfriend if he let her pray in peace, so he left.
"The Truth Hurts"
Finding Lea in the garden, he tried to reassure her that he would take care of her, but she was distraught because they couldn't grow enough food to survive. In response, he took care of the plants and surprised her with them, rekindling her hope.
"Stay in Control"
Jean set about making a garden on the roof rather than the lab, with Lea contentedly watching him. They were interrupted by the arrival of a parachute with a holographic message attached; from Sten. After Sten's ultimatum, Lea and Jean were placed on watch duty. Jean wished to leave, to flee, but Lea wouldn't go with him. After that, he noticed Rasmus and Sarah outside, just as Rasmus began secreting the virus. Alarmed, he informed the rest of the group, and later comforted Lea when she became distraught by Simone's lies. When she wished to leave, he agreed.
"Save Yourself"
Following the breakup of the group, Lea was no longer certain whether she wanted to leave or not, so he built her a chapel to calm her. However, Apollon soon raided the base, so they were forced to flee. They found Patrick, who took them to a secure room and then killed the invading Apollon agents with the sound system. He went after Lea, who was distraught by the killing afterward, and she kissed him.
"Keep It Together"
Jean came to Simone to ask for advice about how to deal with his fear of losing Lea, and later, Lea herself realized his fear and danced with him, reminiscing about their fond memories together. During Rasmus' procedure, both Jean and Lea were present to watch Rasmus nearly kill Simone with a cloud of virus, so Lea went in and sacrificed herself to give Simone enough time to administer the cure, dying in front of Jean's eyes. In the aftermath, Jean cried inconsolably while others attempted to sooth hm.
"Survival of the Fittest"
Jean remained by Lea's grave, praying and occasionally crying again over her loss. Rasmus came to apologize, but he couldn't stand to be near Rasmus, and so left. After Rasmus cleared out, Jean returned to Lea's grave only to be disturbed by even more people, bounty hunters looking for Rasmus, so Jean directed them straight to Rasmus in revenge. He remained at the grave until Simone came by, at which point he revealed his treachery and his desire that Rasmus dies. After this exchange, he went to the control room, where he used the thread of its powerful sound system to force Martin to lure Rasmus to him.
Martin later tried to reason with Jean, and nearly succeeded, but the moment Jean saw Rasmus, he hit the alarm. It did not kill them however, as Kira shot the speakers before it could incapacitate them. Whimpering with the pain of loss and from the sound, Jean returned to his controls, only to see Lea on the screen, near her grave, admonishing his attempts at revenge. Realizing his mistake, Jean left the control room and stealthily rejoined Simone's group.
Season 3
"Don't Give Up"
Life remained dismal for Jean, and he was depressed almost constantly, to the point where other people's sympathies began to wear thin. He remained outside when Kira, Patrick, and Martin infiltrated Apollon, and linked up with Kira after the failed attempt to rescue Simone.
"Stay Strong"
With Kira, Jean didn't even know why he bothered eating, although Kira admonished him as a fool for not eating anything just because he was depressed. When Daniel arrived seeking their help, he went with Kira to save Simone, and was left to guard Daniel's parents with a gun after their capture. However, they came under attack by wild men, and Daniel's father was shot with a makeshift crossbow bolt. Jean opened fire randomly, after some hesitation, which brought Kira running back to his aid. She took the gun and handled the wild men. Later on, Jean comforted Luna when she was sad, albeit awkwardly, and ended up more comforted by Luna than the other way around.
"Be the Change You Want in the World"
Jean went with Simone to recover Luna. En route, Kira admonished him to stop feeling sorry for himself. In a dilapidated city, and after dodging projectiles from the wild men, Jean made it up to the secret ladder to the upper levels of the building where the wild men made their base. Given that the ladder required scaling the outside of the skyscraper, Jean was too terrified to go on, and so stayed behind. His companions were soon captured, and after the wild men all cleared out, Jean came up and freed his companions. He then followed them after the wild men, discovering the blood bath at the flower, whose defense mechanism peppered everyone with projectile thorns that killed them all.
"Love Yourself"
When Jean saw Kira's despair, he comforted her, because her admonishment had helped him too. They hug, and Kira felt better over not being the one to kill Sten.
"And This Too Shall Pass"
After Martin's death, Jean attended his funeral, and also gave Simone advice for getting over her grief. He then went to prepare a trap for Rasmus, and when everyone had to flee Rasmus' subordinates, Jean stood before Olivia so that she would kill him and not realize where the others were. Before she could, however, the last surviving wild girl shot Olivia with a fiery bolt, incapacitating her and allowing everyone to flee. Jean witnessed the deaths of the afflicted and the end of the virus world wide, and stayed with Simone in her attempt to rebuild humanity.
