"Don't Give Up" is the first episode of the third season of The Rain, and the fifteenth episode overall. Directed by Josefine Kirkeskov, and written by Julie Budtz Sørensen, the episode premiered on August 6, 2020.
Synopsis
Haunted by nightmares and afraid of his newfound powers, Rasmus voluntarily confines himself at Apollon. Meanwhile, Simone ventures beyond the wall.
Plot
The season opens with the panicked evacuation of the area outside the zone — the Rain has escaped containment. Cars and buses crash and run people over in everyone's hysterical attempts to flee.
Three months later, in the midst of a dream, Rasmus sees through Sarah's eyes, with her telling him of how she was abandoned by the group after she "died". When he wakes, Sten is there to comfort him, as he had months ago come into Apollon's care following his sister's betrayal. Rasmus has locked himself in a glass room to prevent anyone from being infected by him, although Sten himself assures him that he is free to come and go as he pleases, that Apollon is his home. However, Rasmus wants Sten to bring his sister to him, and although Sten counsels him to forget her, Rasmus insists, so Sten carries out his wish.
Simone herself is on a direct course to the edge of the zone, intending to escape to find help in order to get everyone else out without their nanocapsules rupturing and infecting them with the virus. However, while going through the tunnel, Apollon arrive and activate the defenses, leaving Fie trapped inside the zone to be captured by Apollon. Simone continues on, discovers that the outside world is infected, and then returns. There, she is captured by Apollon with Fie, although the rest of the group remains at large. Daniel and Luna witness the entire thing, and keep an eye out for Simone.

Fie and Simone are brought to Apollon headquarters with the rest of their group in hot pursuit. After passing screening, Simone is brought before Rasmus. Rasmus himself is meditating, seeing Sarah's experiences as she tries to get to him, including being helped by a survivor and using the virus to kill those who came and murdered him. Simone brings Rasmus out of the trance and apologizes. However, things don't stay nice long when Rasmus reveals that he knew of the virus spreading outside the zone, and considers it "no concern". He explains that if everyone can adapt to the virus, like he has, then everyone can survive, but Simone is somehow disgusted by this and continues to ramble on about a cure. This enrages Rasmus, so he sends her away.
The rest of her group sneak into Apollon headquarters while Simone is shown all the people who willingly came to be given the virus by Rasmus, to adapt to it. She speaks with them, and decides to take one to Rasmus to speak to. Meanwhile, Patrick tries to break Fie out of the compound, but she is actually happy that she is being seen to by doctors for when she gives birth. She makes up a story about Patrick being the father, so that he, too, can be a guest at Apollon.
Rasmus himself, in his quarters, is still seeing visions of Sarah when Simone arrives with a patient. She antagonizes him, declaring that he was deluded by Sten, until eventually the virus erupts from him. She's disgusted by her own brother, referring to what he's "become", and abandons him again. She flees even as the headquarters go into lock down, managing to escape to a bridge, where she is cornered. Patrick and Martin also nearly manage to catch up to her, with Fie staying behind. Kira also comes near, trying to get into a good sniper position to kill Sten, but is unable to do so.

With Simone cornered, Rasmus comes before her and begs her to simply trust him, as he always trusted her. However, she refuses reason, begins to hyperventilate and go into hysterics. She decides to jump off the bridge to her death, rather than listen to her brother. Sten pulls Rasmus away, and Martin is captured. In Rasmus' quarters, he punches the glass where he can see his reflection, but the virus heals the damage to his fist within seconds. In a rage, he unleashes a massive blast of viral infection that floods his entire room.
Sarah eventually arrives at Apollon headquarters and finds Rasmus lying on the floor with his guilt. They find comfort in each other's arms.
