Nozomi Harasaki is a childhood friend of Ryo Hazuki and runs a flower shop in Dobuita, Japan. In the winter of 1986, Ryo stayed in the company of Nozomi until darkness fell, eventually realising he should return home. Memories of subsequent events, including the death of his father, reveal that Ryo partly blames himself for staying too long with Nozomi, in turn leaving his father vulnerable.
Nozomi was briefly seen towards the end of the first Shenmue story, either lost in thought or distracted by something. Currently, she has not appeared in any further stories.
