Story
Chilling out in Spike's Place, Sonic is passing the time building a house of cards, when suddenly his cover is blown by one of the walls being destroyed. Robotnik has tracked Sonic down and has sent a new mecha to attack him. While Sonic launches into battle, a similar battle is underway in cyberspace. The digital recreation of Shadow the Hedgehog is fighting against the same mecha, but keeping his head. With the push of a button, Shadow detonates a bomb he's attached to the mecha and it blows to smithereens. Back in the real world, Sonic is shocked to see that his attack has done little good: The robot is repairing himself before his eyes. Nonetheless, he keeps fighting, while G.U.N. troopers above make their rounds, throwing supply crates into the streets for anyone who needs them. Sonic takes advantage of this, launching himself from one of the springs inside a crate to blast through the mecha with enough velocity. Shadow is musing upon the loss of his bomb, unaware that the robot is reforming in his realm, thanks to the damage Sonic is doing, while Robotnik gloats about his success with the robot in the form of a video blog.
Immediately after, Shadow is again in battle with the robot, but has worked out what's happening, having seen programs that behave the same way. Meanwhile, Sonic has lured the mecha onto a train track. Robotnik plans to derail the oncoming train with a missile before it hits the mecha, but the confident hero challenges him to a game of Chicken. At the same time, Shadow hacks into the mecha on his end, deleting all essential programs and functions and bringing the machine down, just in time for Sonic to get out of the way before the train destroys it completely. As Sonic surveys the wreckage, he finds that the monitor is active, while displaying only static. Shadow looks upon Mobius through the monitor, and briefly chats with Sonic. He refers to himself as Sonic's deus ex machina, but won't call himself an ally, nor will he tell Sonic who he is, instead saying he's better off not knowing before signing off. Sonic takes it in his stride however, since if no one knows who helped him on the other side, he can take all the credit.
