Jawz is a third-generation shark-like Badnik. It has a streamlined body and uses a rear-fitted propeller to boost itself forward like a missile. Its primary method of travel is through the air, although its propeller allows for more conventional underwater movement. To add to its appearance of a shark, Jawz has sharp teeth, although they are not used for biting.
One model of Jawz first appeared in the waters of the Labyrinth Zone. Three of the Badniks attempted to destroy Sonic whilst he was distracted by Doctor Robotnik's whirlpool machine. The hedgehog easily beat all three of them at once, but the delay caused him to be pulled in by the vortex once more. Another Jawz was used in the Metropolis Zone to scare the citizens, but was soon required to fight the Badnik army sent by Commander Brutus.

Jawz also appeared as a minor villain in the Hydrocity Zone area of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and in Sonic Colours.
