(info)

Shimiese was a language spoken by the Pacithhip[1] Ketwol[3] while conversing with the Lamproid[2] Dice Ibegon,[4] who spoke in Lamproid,[1] while they were at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley spaceport on the planet[5] Tatooine[2] in 0 BBY.[6]
Behind the scenes

Shimiese was first heard in the 1977 original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope,[2] although in the original release, the sound was meant to represent the growl of the Shistavanen Lak Sivrak. Sivrak was removed[7] in the 1997[8] Special Edition re-release of film and digitally replaced with Ketwol; however, the sound remained.[7]
The language heard in the film was then identified as Shimiese in the 2019 video "Every Language in Star Wars Movies," which was part of the Star Wars By the Numbers series created by StarWarsKids.com.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Shimiese was introduced as the native language of the Pacithhip species in the 2003 Star Wars Roleplaying Game supplement Ultimate Alien Anthology, which was released by Wizards of the Coast; however, it was never associated with the language heard in A New Hope in that continuity.[9]
