"Watch where ye look, laddie. The frightful Rayfish is known tae stun its quarry with a blindin' flash o' light."
―Skoova Stev, warns Cal Kestis about the Rayfish[2]

The Ray,[1] also known as the Rayfish or blinding rayfish, were a species of predatory[2] scalefish native to the planet Naboo[1] and Koboh. The blinding rayfish had a protruding mandible and a skeletal appearance. They pretended to be long dead, waiting for their prey to approach. When close enough, the scalefish would stun their prey with a blinding flash of light and striked them with a single lethal blow.[2]

On Naboo, the scalefish could be seen in the waters around the city Otoh Gunga in Lake Paonga, and could also be found in the Abyss, where they were preyed upon indiscriminately by the large colo claw fish and opee sea killers that dwelt there.[1] While on Koboh, the scalefish could be seen in the rock pools and watered gulches of the planet. At one point, a noble attempted to take a blinding rayfish as a pet. She decided to parade the rayfish at a gala, where a senator was blinded by the bioluminescent burst of light.[2]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon.

In 9 BBY,[3] the Sakavian fisherman Skoova Stev caught a blinding rayfish in a devastated settlement of the High Republic in the Stone Spires area, putting it to the fish tank in Pyloon's Saloon.[2]

The ray first appeared in the film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. They were first identified in the Star Wars Legends reference book Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary. They were confirmed to be canon in the reference book Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know.

Ray, along with fellow scalefish doo, mee, faa, see, laa, and tee, appear to reference the real-world musical scale; ie, ""Do, Re, Me, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do."
