The Halaisi were a sentient species in the galaxy. Humanoid in shape with a build similar to that of humans, they had golden skin and eyes, and four limbs with five-fingered hands. Their eyelids and lips could be blue, and they could have black eyebrows.[1] It was possible for Halaisi to be Force-sensitive.[3]
Rig Nema, a Halaisi from Halais, was a member of the Jedi Order and a doctor during the final years of the Republic Era.[1] She examined Grand Master Yoda[3] in 19 BBY[4] after other members of the Jedi High Council were concerned about his health.[3]
Behind the scenes
Halaisi first appeared in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars sixth-season episode "Voices"[3]—which premiered on March 1, 2014, in Germany[5] and on March 7 on Netflix in North America[6]—with the character of Rig Nema. The species was first identified in the 2021 reference book Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Character Encyclopedia - Join the Battle!, written by Jason Fry.[1] Nema's physical appearance was based on an early concept design for Jedi Master Mace Windu[7] drawn by Iain McCaig during the pre-production of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. As actor Samuel L. Jackson had not yet been cast, McCaig based his design on Industrial Light & Magic modeler Steve Aplin.[8]

(backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas and Star Wars Galaxy Map, stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. This article treats Halais as one such homeworld with regard to the Halaisi species.
