The Echo Stones were powerful Force artifacts that originated from the mysterious Planet X that acted as conduits for both the light side and the dark side of the Force. Echo Stones could amplify one's connection to the Force and allow it to be wielded in unpredictable ways. The Sith Lord Darth Ravi sought the power of the Echo Stones. The Tolemite people placed Echo Stones in three rods, which gave them the power to control the Nameless, creatures who fed on the Force and also originated from Planet X.
During the High Republic Era, Jedi Master Barnabas Vim and Padawan Vix Fonnick traveled to Angcord in search of artifacts, coming across an Echo Stone. The artifact was shattered by the Jedi and the shards were scattered across the galaxy. After their mission, Vim dedicated his life to studying the Echo Stones and discovered one in the possession of Jedi Master on Petris Major. Vim then attempted to return both of of the Echo Stones in his possession to Planet X, but his ship was damaged in the planet's Veil and he was never heard from again.
Description

The Echo Stones had the ability to enhance and amplify connections to the Force. The longer that an Echo Stone was connected to an individual, the greater their abilities became. The Echo Stone on Angcord had an extremely powerful connection to the Living Force, being able to influence the well-being of an entire planet. The stone acted as a conduit of the Force, allowing Angcord to be supported by the light but also poisoned by the darkness. The stone could allow its connections to gain immense amounts of power in the Force, as evidenced by the Lady of Angcord and the pilgrims of Angcord. While the Echo Stones could promote life and growth, they could also channel energy from the dark side of the Force into those connected to it.[1]
History
Ancient times

The Echo Stones originated from Planet X, a mysterious paradise world with a powerful connection to the Force.[3] Over ten millennia before 228 BBY,[5] the Tolemite people placed Echo Stones into three rods, giving them the power to control the species known as the Nameless, who originated from Planet X and fed on the Living Force. The Tolemites had brought the Nameless to their homeworld Tolis, but their people were ravaged by the Nameless feeding on the Force within them, and a blight came in the Nameless's wake. The Three Ancients, the Tolemite leaders, used the three rods containing Echo Stones to lead the Nameless back to Planet X in the hopes of saving their people and stopping the blight.[6]
Sometime long before 382 BBY, an Echo Stone was hidden on the world of Angcord to hide it from the Sith Lord Darth Ravi. The people of Angcord used the stone to amplify their force connection and grow more powerful.[1] According to legend, Darth Ravi found an Echo Stone on the Dead Moon of Gothol. However, he was not strong enough to wield its power, destroying himself and the stone when he tried to channel it.[2]
High Republic Era
In around 482 BBY, [7] during the High Republic Era, Jedi Master Barnabas Vim and his apprentice Vix Fonnick traveled to Angcord in search of Force artifacts. The Lady of Angcord, as well as the pilgrims of Angcord, drew power from the Echo Stone which corrupted them and the planet itself. Master Vim had sensed the darkness growing on Angcord and warned the Lady of Angcord of the danger surrounding the Echo Stone. The Lady of Angcord, as well as the First Pilgrim, refused to listen to Vim's concerns. Following a dream that revealed the true danger of the Echo Stone, Vim and his apprentice made a move to destroy it. The Echo Stone was effectively shattered, freeing the Lady of Angcord from her dark, raging state. Vim and Fonnick then took the fractured shards of the stone to different parts of the galaxy to create balance on Angcord.[1]

Vim then dedicated himself to studying the Echo Stones in the hopes of mitigating their danger and preventing them from being used as weapons. He eventually discovered that his old friend Jedi Wayseeker Tar'ak Borran was in possession of an Echo Stone on the planet Petris Major. Vim took a long journey to locate Borran on the planet, discovering that Borran's Echo Stone was slowly consuming him and making him ill. Borran then requested Vim's help to save an Oolorian settlement from a massive wave that threatened to destroy it. Working together, Vim and Borran channeled the power of the stone to raise a massive stone wall from the ground and hold back the wave. Afterward, Borran—who was injured by using the stone—agreed to give the stone to Vim for safe keeping. Borran revealed the orgin of the Echo Stones as Planet X.[3]
Vim then traveled to Planet X to attempt to return Borran's Echo Stone and his Echo stone shard from Angcord to the planet. While navigating through the planet's hazardous and tempestuous Veil, Vim left a final message to Fonnick explaining what he was doing. However, Vim's ship was damaged by the Veil and he was never heard from again.[3]
Around 382 BBY, Jedi Knight Azlin Rell searched the Jedi Archives at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant for information about the Echo Stone.[1]
