Ebon hawk

For other uses, see Hawk.
This article is about the canon bird. You may be looking for the starship in Star Wars Legends, the Ebon Hawk.

"That's what everyone always believes. It won't happen to us. We don't look for trouble. We're not doing anything wrong. We're not important enough. That's what the skittermouse says to itself as the ebon hawk glides overhead, right up until it feels the chill of shadow and bite of talons."
―Vi Moradi[1]

The ebon hawk was a type of hawk. They were known to prey on the skittermouse,[1] a creature found on the Inner Rim desert planet Jakku,[2] which the birds would catch in their talons. During her mission to the planet Batuu[1] in 34 ABY,[3] Resistance spy Vi Moradi compared the Batuuan residents believing that they were safe from the First Order to an unaware skittermouse that was being preyed on by an ebon hawk when speaking to the farmers Grana and Dolin, likening the presence of a First Order Star Destroyer to a hawk overhead.[1]

Behind the scenes

The ebon hawk was mentioned in the 2019 novel Galaxy's Edge: Black Spire, written by Delilah S. Dawson. The bird shares its name with[1] the starship Ebon Hawk in the Star Wars Legends continuity, introduced in the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.[4] Dawson stated that the Ebon Hawk contributed to her obsession with birds in Star Wars.[5]
