- "Those analysis droids you've got over there only focus on symbols. I should think you Jedi would have more respect for the difference between knowledge and wisdom."
- ―Dexter Jettster
Analysis droids,[1] also called analyst droids or information droids,[2] were droids in use to analyze data. SP-4 analysis droids and JN-66 analysis droids were popular models of analysis droids.[3]
Analysis droids were designed to assist in the analysis of everything from physical items to sentient behavior. They were used for a variety of tasks including scientific research and law enforcement.[4] Analysis droids saw use in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where they assisted Jedi with their assignments,[1] working alongside members of the Jedi Order. Many analysis droids, such as Russo-ISC who assisted Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker in their investigation of the Jedi Temple hangar bombing,[5] were designed to analyze crime scenes and even interview witnesses. At first, analysis droids were criticized for being too literal and unable to make leaps of insight and imagination. In time, more experienced analysis units became able to make such 'intuitive' judgments — or at least they appeared to.[4]
Although the Jedi owned a large number of analysis droids, they could be found far from the towering walls of the Jedi Temple. In hospitals across the galaxy, analysis droids analyzed medical data, particularly in the field of infection control. Their sensitive photoreceptors and imaging scanning were invaluable for examinations, and the droids made initial assessments to determine if patients needed to be seen by a specialist. During the Clone Wars, many analysis droids worked in the Grand Republic Medical Facility on Coruscant, where they streamlined the processing of injured clone troopers, who arrived in large numbers almost constantly.[6]
Analyst droids were also often specialized in analyzing battle strategy. AP-5 was a RA-7 protocol droid who served as an analyst droid during the Ryloth campaign.[7]
