Mil Mi-2

Hip

Shiiiit! We're hit! We're hit! Pull out, pull out!
― The unfortunate pilot of the Mil Mi-2

The Mil Mi-2 (Assigned the code name "Hoplite" by NATO) is a small, lightly armored transport helicopter that could also provide close air support when armed with Rocket pods and a chain gun. It was made in the former Soviet Union, and is currently in service with the Ukrainian air force. The chopper only makes one appearance in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.

Appearances

Clear Sky

In Clear Sky, a Mil Mi-2 makes its appearance above the Limansk hospital to clear out resistance for the military. It's somewhat helpful to the player, as it will take down several Monolith troops on the ground. The chopper is armed with 2 wing-tip mounted rocket pods and a pylon-mounted chain-gun. For the quest line to proceed, the gunship must be shot down. It will take about 2 direct hits from an RPG, but conventional weapons can also ground it, though it may take quite a few rounds to clip it.

Trivia

  • Despite it being a lightly armored chopper, it can take either: a direct hit from an RPG-7, 4 directs hits from a grenade launcher or up to 50 rounds of 7.62x54mm PP rounds from a PKM. In reality, a chopper so lightly armored would not even come close to surviving this much punishment.
