Synopsis

The Stars are driving late at night to go on a family fun cruise. When Patrick unveils the brochure to show off the activities, it covers Cecil's eyes and makes him drive off a cliff. Noticing some eerie fog, they figure they have made it to the pier. They then see a tractor beam from a UFO, abducting various citizens, and drive in. The abductees are put into jars to be harvested, as the gray alien captain of the ship tells his crew about his plans for world domination.
Looking for a parking spot, Cecil ends up smashing the jars and frees the people trapped inside. He crashes into a crew of aliens and parks the car in the airlock. An alien gets angry, but Cecil mistakes him for the bellhop and gives him his bags. Cecil tries to use the elevator to find his room, but he opens the airlock by mistake and sends the alien and his car shooting outside. Walking through a hallway, he cannot identify what each room is, and ends up going into the engine room as their cabin. GrandPat tries to take a nap on the "vibrating bed," which is actually an engine, and smashes it up to make himself comfortable. The rest of the family split up before meeting back for dinner.
Patrick and Squidina come across an arcade. Patrick plays what he thinks is a game, but he is actually shooting another alien ship. Another brown alien race asks Patrick why he is shooting at them, claiming they were meant to invade the Earth along with the gray aliens. They try to stop him, but Patrick presses a button that ends up charging a laser at the other ship, then goes to leave. When the captain arrives to check in with the brown aliens, he finds that Patrick's laser cannot be stopped, and nervously shuts the blinds after seeing the wreckage.

Cecil and Bunny stumble into what they believe to be a shuffleboarding court. They launch the trapped passengers out and back to Earth, sending some of the aliens out into space once they interrupt. Patrick and Squidina come by, and they decide to go for breakfast. Elsewhere in the ship, the captain is having a queen breed an army of super-soldiers. Patrick and the family come by and think it's a breakfast buffet, eating all the eggs. The captain, enraged with the family, throws them out and sends them through the airlock. However, they get launched directly into their car.
The captain believes everything is over, until he returns to the arcade and finds that the brown aliens now see him as a traitor due to Patrick's accidental attack. They get revenge and blow the ship to pieces, after which the captain cries to one of his crewmates. The Stars drive home until they accidentally crash into the S.S. Super Minnow. When Quasar asks Cecil for insurance information, he awkwardly claims to have left it on the ship, then sends the car into reverse. It crashes into a black hole, which sucks them all in.
Production
This episode was confirmed on October 2, 2023, and it was completed sometime during the aforementioned year.[4]
The episode was added to the United States Copyright Office on February 15, 2024.[4]
On February 22, 2024, Eliza Herndon posted on Tumblr that she and her team worked on the episode, making Tim Prendergast this episode's supervising director.[5]
On its premiere day, Herndon confirmed who storyboarded, and thus, by technicality, two of the three people who wrote this episode.[6]
Promotional art
- Drawn by Kenny Pittenger.[7]
Art
- Drawn by Eliza Herndon in response to an anonymous Tumblr AMA (ask me anything), recreating a moment from "Porky Pig's Feat" with SpongeBob, Patrick, and the shark salesman.[8] She quote tweeted this art in a Twitter post she made featuring storyboards from this episode.[9]

Storyboards
- Supervised by Tim Prendergast, directed by Gabe Del Valle,[10] storyboarded by him and Mike Pelensky,[11][12] plussed by Eliza Herndon.[13][14]
Mike Pelensky uploaded storyboards from the second half of the episode to his Slideshare account on July 6, 2024.[1]
Prop design
- Designed by David Brueggeman.[15]
Edited scenes
- The original ending of the episode featured Patrick hopping out of the Star car in space, afraid of Captain Quasar and Pat-Tron, believing they are aliens. He runs away and gets eaten by the black hole.
Production notes
Mike Pelensky:
- Pelensky said that "Star Cruise" was one of his favorite episodes from the second season to write and storyboard alongside Gabe Del Valle, "being hard enough to choose a favorite." He described the episode as "[showing] the Star Family stumbling into a family fun cruise that turns out to be an alien abduction," and believed that it was "was stuffed to the gills with great character moments, hilarious acting, and some pretty fantastic sight gags."[11] Pelensky stated that it "was a ton of fun developing the alien commander's arc, especially since he was smarter and shorter-tempered than the Stars (but evidently less capable)." He believed that he and Del Valle got "so much mileage" out of the character.[12]
Eliza Herndon:
- Herndon said that this was "another incredibly fun episode to work on, and a good challenge to help get out of my comfort zone," as she had to draw tons of incidentals. She said that she crossed "[working] on an episode that has Kevin Michael Richardson" off my bucket list," and hoped everyone enjoyed the show.[14]

Trivia
General
- This is the third episode of the show to feature Patrick and the family confusing one location for something else, following "Gas Station Vacation," where they considered the gas station a vacation resort, and "Family Plotz," where they confused the cemetery for the park.
- Patrick, Squidina, and GrandPat were previously abducted by aliens at the end of "A Space Affair to Remember."
- Gabe Del Valle previously wrote and storyboarded another cartoon about a character getting abducted by aliens: the Looney Tunes Cartoons short "Abducted Bunny," where Bugs Bunny is abducted by Marvin the Martian.
- When Lady Upturn says "I am offended." before being shoved into a pod, the audio is reused from the episode "Neptune's Ball."
- This episode was omitted from airing on Nickelodeon Global, Nicktoons Global and Nickelodeon Asia for unknown reasons.
Episode references
- A Patrick plush and the radioactive toaster from "The Patrick Show Cashes In" can be seen as one of things flying out into space when Cecil initially confuses the ship evacuator for an elevator.
- The aliens from "FarmerBob" and the fuzzy brown aliens from "A Space Affair to Remember" reappear in this episode.
- This is the third episode not to feature the Star house in any capacity. The previous two were "Klopnodian Heritage Festival" and "Movie Stars."
Cultural references
- The title card uses the large-letter postcard style, almost bearing a resemblance to the Gravity Falls logo.
- One of the aliens carrying Cecil's stacked luggage references the 1943 Looney Tunes cartoon, Porky Pig's Feat, where Daffy carries his and Porky's luggage in the same way.[13]
- This is the second The Patrick Star Show episode to reference that cartoon, following "Chum Bucket List."
- When Cecil looks to see how far he "shuffleboarded" various aliens and Bikini Bottomites out of the ship evacuator, his pose is a nod to one that Tom makes in the 1945 Tom and Jerry cartoon, Tee for Two.[13]
- Before Cecil shuffles an alien out into space, the alien's angry back-and-forth walking movements are an homage to Marvin the Martian's in the 1952 Looney Tunes cartoon, The Hasty Hare.[16]
Errors

- When Bunny leaves the engine room, her lipstick is missing.
