The Buyer came to Miradero by train to inspect for purchase three Arabian mares that Mr. Granger newly brought in to his stock. The Buyer arrived earlier than expected, while the mares were still on the loose in town after having escaped the barn at dawn. Lucky had Abigail distract him with a tour of the town while Lucky and Pru rounded up the mares. After finally being delivered to the barn by Abigail, the Buyer thought the mares to be "fine animals" and purchased all three from Mr. Granger for $3,000.[1]
During the tour, Abigail learned that the Buyer had two sons, John and Joe. Abigail remarked that these were not "very horsey names at all!"[1]
