Whoops! Look out for the flame balls circling around overhead! Dodge the fire serpents and fluorescent bats, and use the springs to reach special items.

— Description, Sonic Blast[1]

Red Volcano Zone (レッドボルケーノ[2] Reddo Borukēno?, lit. "Red Volcano") is the third Zone of Sonic Blast, which is represented by the red color and its environment.

Description

As the name suggests, Red Volcano Zone is set within the caves of an active volcano.

Story

Red Mountain Zone was the third destination that Sonic and Knuckles had visited, as part of their mission to find the missing shards of the Chaos Emerald before their enemy, Dr. Robotnik does so. After they get past through many fire-related dangers and defeating the evil scientist, Robotnik again escapes, leaving the two heroes to continue on with their journey.

Gameplay

Red Volcano Zone possesses gimmicks, such as Spin Dash-powered elevators (resembling those in Lava Reef Zone from Sonic & Knuckles).

At the end of Act 3, Dr. Robotnik will bounce into view from the right or left side of the screen inside of a mace-equipped mech on a spring. Once he is at the maximum height for his bounce, he will throw his wrecking ball and keep it outstretched that way until he falls off-screen again. To defeat Dr. Robotnik, the player must hit the mech's glass cover eight times.
