Moebius

This location exists primarily or exclusively within the Pre-Super Genesis Wave continuity.
Information in this article may not be canonical to the storyline of the games or any other Sonic continuity.

Moebius, formerly known as Anti-Mobius, and the Reverse Universe, is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is the Anti-Verse equivalent to planet Mobius. It is the home of the Suppression Squad, including Scourge the Hedgehog.

Typically, people from Moebius have opposite personality traits and enhanced negative traits of their Mobius Prime counterparts. For example, Anti-Knuckles is a pacifist as opposed to the fighter that Knuckles Prime is, while Dr. Robotnik's mirror self is the kindly Dr. Kintobor.

History

Development

Moebius developed as world to become the opposite of Mobius in many ways. While Mobius was home to Chaos Emeralds, Moebius is a rich source of Anarchy Beryl. Power Rings on Moebius came about in far fewer numbers than on Mobius, and often carried dangerious side effects for their users. As it approached it's current condition, the world became home to many self-serving cowards and a bare handful of heroic protectors.[1] While Mobius has the flying Angel Island, Moebius' Demon Island ended up hidden beneath the surface of the ocean.[2]

The Great Peace and Decline

Roughly around the same time as the conflict in Mobius Prime's history known as the Great War, Anti-Mobius experienced a time of peace and prosperity known as the "Great Peace". Scourge's father Anti-Jules was a key member in bringing about the Great Peace. Scourge described it as an event that "brought everyone together in one big group hug." After ten years however, things on Anti-Mobius "stagnated" and the Great Peace broke down (this is around the same time as Dr. Ivo Robotnik's coup d'état on Mobius Prime). Thus an era of war and violence erupted.[3]

Anti-Sonic and Anti-Sally's Takeover

Similar to the events that happened in Mobius Prime, King Acorn was banished to the Zone of Silence during a coup. However, in Anti-Mobius, it was Anti-Sonic and Anti-Sally who disposed of the king and took power over Mobotropolis.[4]

Interactions with Mobius Prime

In 3235, Sonic the Hedgehog arrived on Anti-Mobius when trying to take shortcut using the Cosmic Interstate. After a brief encounter with Anti-Robotnik during his search for answers to where he was, Sonic ran into Anti-Sonic, who explained Anti-Mobius' deal to him. Eventually coming to blows with each other, Sonic beat his counterpart by luring him into a trap at Anti-Robotnik's clinic before returning to the Prime Zone.[5]

Some time later, Anti-Sonic brought the Anti-Freedom Fighters to Mobius Prime where they impersonated their prime-zone counterparts and terrorized the local Mobians. Eventually however the Freedom Fighters returned and sent the Anti-versions of themselves back to Anti-Mobius.[6] Dr. Ivo Robotnik subsequently invanded Anti-Mobius in secret, intending to use it's resources for his own purposes. He ended up tricking Anti-Sonic and Anti-Knuckles into invanding Mobius Prime, but the plan backfired when Freedom Fighters and Knuckles Prime arrived and assisted Anti-Knuckles in defeating him, sending him back to his home dimension.[2]

Conquered by Scourge

Moebius 01

Following a considerable amount of time spent on Mobius Prime and his transformation into Scourge the Hedgehog, Sonic's evil counterpart eventually made his way back to Anti-Mobius using a Warp Ring taken from Dr. Finitevus and charged with energy from the Master Emerald.[7][8][9] Having been inspired by a number of confrontations with Sonic, Scourge decided to explore his full potential. After returning to Anti-Mobius with Fiona Fox, Scourge proceeded to conquer all of Anti-Mobius within a matter of days, renaming the planet "Moebius", crown himself "king" and reform the Anti-Freedom Fighters into the Suppression Squad.[10]

Invasion of Mobius Prime

Following his takeover of "Moebius", King Scourge then led the Suppression Squad to an invasion of Mobius Prime, determined to claim that world as well.[11] The group soon captured Freedom HQ, forcing the Freedom Fighters to flee, but not long afterwards they were attacked by Metal Sonic, Sonic Prime and Metal Scourge.[10][12] Realizing that the battle with their "metal" counterparts was a stalemate, Scourge eventually broke down and called in assistance from the Suppression Squad, resulting in the destruction of Metal Sonic and Metal Scourge.[13]

After the robots' destructions, Sally assigned Amy Rose and Sonic to venture to Moebius in an attempt to find assistance in returning Scourge and the Suppression Squad home. The pair visited Dr. Kintobor and his new ally Buns Rabbot, who due to developing NIDS was forced to rely on the doctor's Omega Care Unit in order to remain healthy. Despite Kintobor's misgivings, Buns escorted the two Mobians to Moebius' Castle Acorn where they met Rosy the Rascal.[14] Their pitched battle with her was further complicated as Scourge was forced back onto Moebius by the treacherous Suppression Squad as well as the arrivals of Shadow the Hedgehog, Metal Sonic v3.0, Silver the Hedgdhog, and Rob o' the Hedge.[15] After a several stage battle involving the eight combatants, the Suppression Squad, and the Freedom Fighters, the transformed Super Scourge was defeated. Scourge was subsequently taken to the No Zone by Sonic.[16]

Scourge's Return

After Scourge and his new gang consisting of the Destructix broke out of Zone Jail, the group made their way back to Moebius. There, Scourge had them disregard a job set up for them by Dr. Finitevus in favor of his own plans.[17]

Trivia

  • The name Moebius may be based off of Möbius syndrome, which also spelled Moebius, an extremely rare congenital neurological disorder which is characterized by facial paralysis and the inability to move the eyes from side to side. The term Moebius also refers to a fictional loop in time that creates inescapable repeating events.
