Hawkhawk

Hawkhawk,^[1] real name Staktartare,^[2] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He is a mobian hawk and the founder and former leader of the Freedom Fighters of the Galaxy, as well as Saleta's ex-boyfriend.

History

Past

Some time ago, Hawkhawk located Bunni, Rotor-27, Saleta and Twan-Du and founded the Freedom Fighters of the Galaxy.^[1]

Freedom Fighters of the Galaxy

Hawkhawk and the other Freedom Fighters of the Galaxy dropped out of the Cosmic Hawk Bodyshell in order to save Sonik and Tailon from the Brass Knuckles assaulting them. Hawkhawk used his all-knowing beak to transmit the self-destruct codes to several Brass Knuckles, destroying them. Once the rest of the Brass Knuckles were defeated, Hawkhawk told Sonik that he and Tailon must join the Freedom Fighters of the Galaxy, as his beak had told him that it would be the only way to save Mobius from Robolactus. However, he was soon interrupted by the arrival of Silver Snively. Hawkhawk was unable to get a clear shot at Silver Snively, due to his speed, and was struck by a bolt of cosmic energy from him. Although Sonik managed to defeat Silver Snively, Hawkhawk sensed Robolactus with his beak, and blasted off into space after him, while the other Freedom Fighters of the Galaxy followed in the Cosmic Hawk Bodyshell. Hawkhawk then attempted to distract Robolactus from draining Mobius' energy using his Planet Juicer. However, he was wounded by an attack from Robolactus, and was unable to continue fighting. Despite unable to defeat Robolactus, Hawkhawk returned to the Cosmic Hawk Bodyshell, and Robolactus was convinced by Silver Snively to eat the Shark's home planet, rather than Mobius. With the planet saved, Bunni asked Hawkhawk to join in a group hug, to which he strongly denied.^[1][2]

Personality

Mysterious and anti-social, Hawkhawk has a very strong personality. Despite this, he does appear to have an aura of command to him, as he founded the Freedom Fighters of the Galaxy.^[1][2]

Powers and abilities

Hawkhawk's beak stores all information inside it granting him knowledge of virtually everything. Hawkhawk can fly and fire energy beams from his hands. He was also shown to possess the ability to transmit electronic signals from his hands.^[1] Hawkhawk can also survive in space without protection and is durable enough to survive being blasted by one of Silver Snively's energy beams with seemingly no injury.

Trivia

• Hawkhawk's character is based on that of Starhawk, AKA Stakar Ogord, from Marvel Comics' Guardians of the Galaxy, upon which the Freedom Fighters of the Galaxy are based.
• Hawkhawk's real name, Staktartare, is a reference both to the name Stakar Ogord and the meat dish steak tartare.
• Hawkhawk is the only member of the Freedom Fighters of the Galaxy without a known counterpart from Mobius Prime.
• Hawkhawk makes a cameo in the Off Panel strip of Sonic the Hedgehog #235.
