Stages with a coastal theme are set on the shoreline or on islands, often featuring tropical beaches. Common elements include aquatic enemies, paths of sand and normal enemies. Despite being surrounded by water, coastal themed stages tend to not have any underwater elements and the large bodies of water surrounding these stages tend to be bottomless pits. This theme often combines elements with the Green Hill theme.
