Timid Smurf (original French name Schtroumpf Timide) is a minor character of the Smurfs comic books, the 1980s Smurfs cartoon show, and the 2021 Smurfs cartoon show.
Character
Comic Book Universe/2021 TV series
This version of Timid is a very shy Smurf, and his mannerisms are slightly similar to Scaredy. He is considered a separate character from Actor, as he never mimicked anyone.
1981 TV series Version
This version of Timid is an amalgamation of the comic book Timid as well as Actor. He is the village actor who performs in plays. His original name was Timid until he was able to mimic Poet, Painter, Tailor, Handy, and even Papa Smurf perfectly in "All The Smurf's A Stage".
Personality
Comic Book/2021 TV Series Version
As his name implies, Timid is shy and slightly introverted. He often prefers to be alone, and dislikes a lot of company. His shyness can lead to problems, however, which is shown in "Curing Private Timid", where he tries to escape Hefty, the latter wanting to morph him into himself and repeatedly tries to get away, though he barely says anything about it.
Despite his introverted personality, Timid can become confident at times. An example is "Smurfing Places", where, despite knowing and fearing that Papa Smurf and Gargamel have switched places, with the real Papa Smurf in Gargamel's hovel, is unable to say anything about it. His confident side is first seen when he attempts to hit Azrael, though it fails. He later gets annoyed with the Smurfs consistently being unable to figure out which one is Papa Smurf and Gargamel and tells the Smurfs that the real Papa Smurf would know where the village. Multiple times in "Curing Private Timid" does Timid also show confidence, being able to yell at Hefty once (though he shrugs it off), yell at the ogres Bigmouth and Egghead for almost eating Hefty, and kicking Brainy out of the village.
Timid's confidence is usually short-lived, and he returns to his normal self after doing something cool. However, once in "Relaxosmurf", he transforms from a potion to become a non-introverted Smurf to befriend Blossom. However, his new personality frustrates her, and his confident personality disappears when Blossom yells at him.
1981 TV Series Version
In "All The Smurf's A Stage", he is shown to be much more self-assured, being able to imitate Poet, Painter, Tailor, and Handy perfectly, without any shyness. This is directly how he becomes Actor Smurf.
Relationships with Others
Being a shy Smurf in an environment of mischievous-making Smurfs, he is often teased by his fellow Smurfs, which can be seen in "Curing Private Timid". However, some Smurfs, such as Hefty, are open to helping him or boosting his self-esteem when needed.
Smurfblossom
Timid wanted to be Blossom's friend in "Relaxosmurf", but constantly failed as he either was unable to talk to her or annoyed her. Her annoyance reaches its breaking point when being caught by Gargamel, and later, Bigmouth and Egghead. Here, she yells at him, but he reveals his real feelings and they escape together. When returning to the village, Blossom tells him that all he had to do was ask, before giving him a kiss on the cheek.
