Tumblr (https://www.tumblr.com/) is an American microblogging and social networking website founded by former CEO David Karp in February 2007. The service allows users to post multimedia content to a publicly or privately visible short-form blog and follow other users' blogs. The primary tool for Tumblr users is the "dashboard", a live feed of recent posts from followed blogs that users can comment on, "reblog", and like. Users can also add tags to posts to filter them into categories, and the website also features messaging and group chat features.[1]
From 2013 to 2019, Tumblr was owned by Yahoo! Inc., which was itself acquired in 2017 by Verizon Communications, who placed Yahoo and Tumblr under its subsidiary Oath Inc. In 2019, after months of losing traffic after heavy restrictions were placed on adult content, Tumblr was sold to Automattic Inc.[1]
