Dr. P. Metzger is a neurosurgeon employed by BPO. He performs lobotomies on sensates, in an effort to contain them. Metzger is a minor character in Season 1 by Sense8.

Dr. Metzger is killed by Whispers, using the body of Niles Bolger.^[1]

Biography

Early Life

Dr. Metzger was a medical student studying at the University of Chicago. While studying there, he met Whispers. Metzger was employed by BPO, recruited in an effort to lobotomize sensates. He gets paid with a lot of money for performing lobotomy and has traveled around the world.

Metzger is introduced as a doctor working on Nomi's condition. He informs Nomi that he will need to operate on her brain, to sever a connection that is forming between hemispheres.^[2]

Smart Money Is on the Skinny Bitch

Dr. Metzer decides to operate on Nomi ahead of schedule. He and his surgical team have Nomi brought to the OR and prepare to operate on her brain. The fire alarm goes off, and a nurse confirms there's a fire in the visitor's lounge. Metzger puts Nomi under medical quarantine and has the nurse and a guard take Nomi to her room.^[3]

W. W. N. Double D?

Metzger enters a coffee shop where Nomi and Amanita lie in wait. Nomi hacks into his phone as he checks his emails, but Metzger abruptly leaves after a short phone call.

His flight to presumably another operation being cancelled, Metzger discovers Nomi in his apartment. He tries coax her into accepting the operation, but Nomi reveals she's contacted Whisper. Metzger panics and Niles Bolger enters the room, and after a failed struggle Metzger is killed.^[1]

• Metzger is German and means "butcher."
• In San Francisco, he was set to perform Nomi's operation at St. Cecilia's Hospital.

Behind the Scenes

• Adam Shapiro, who portrayed Dr. Metzger, was gifted the photo of Metzger and Cheney by the Wachowskis during his last day on set ^[4].
