Sanrio

Sanrio Company Ltd. is a Japanese entertainment company best known for it's creation, Hello Kitty. It is also the collaborator with SEGA Fave in a few key franchises in which it had a hand in creating the franchises of.

Franchise Co-creation with SEGA

Jewelpet

Starting in 2008, Sanrio began to create characters with SEGA Fave(then SEGA Toys) to be used for merchandising properties. Their first creation was Jewelpets. These were adorable animals with magical jewels for eyes.

SEGA Toys made plush toys of the newly designed creatures. Every Jewelpet came with a special password for the Web-Gurumi website. This website allowed the customer to "adopt" their plush Jewelpet in the virtual world. This password and account would expire after one whole year unless a secondary Jewelpet toy is bought, adding that second pet to the user's account and incentivising the accounts owner to collect more Jewelpets.

With the addition of the anime, SEGA Toys also made items such as the Jewel Stick and Jewel Charms, which featured heavily in the show.

Like many of Sanrio's properties such as Hello Kitty, Keroppi, Cinnamoroll, etc, a lot of Jewelpets merchandising came in the forms of clothing, stationary, accessories, food utensils, and other various goods and were distributed by both SEGA Toys and Sanrio.

Ruby, the white Japanese hare, and what is considered to be the series mascot of the Jewelpet franchise, appears as a mascot character in Sanrio's own themepark, Sanrio Puroland. Several other prominent Jewelpet characters such as Sapphie, Garnet, Labra, Angela, Charlotte, Jasper and Rosa have also appeared in musicals around the park.

Rilu Rilu Fairilu

The second collaboration between SEGA Toys and Sanrio, Rilu Rilu Fairilu was officially launched in 2015. This series featured magical fairies known as the Fairilu who all had unique magical keys. If they should find their keys true door they would grow into full fledged fairies.

Like Ruby, the main character of this series, Lip, was added as a mascot character in Sanrio Puroland, as well as a limited time stage show featuring Lip, Rose, Himawari, Sumire and Rin.

Beatcats

The third collaboration between SEGA Toys and Sanrio was Beatcats. Unlike Jewelpets and Rilu Rilu Fairilu, Beatcats was focused on a slightly older teenager demographic. Whilst not having an anime or manga as the central media, Beatcats instead focuses on music, as the Beatcats are a Virtual Idol band. The Beatcats are a group of vampire cats. Unlike the other two series, no Beatcats character appears as a mascot in Sanrio Puroland.
