Mines

Mines are a type of buildings used to enhance the natural resource output of a city, effectively doubling (2x / +100%) its production. This makes them crucial for cities that produce rare and critical resources, such as Tungsten, Oil, Titanium, and others.

Mines logically do not affect factory output, as they focus solely on extracting underground resources. The only building that boosts factory output is infrastructure, which serves as a more advanced counterpart to mines.

Constructing a mine costs $17,500,000; however, to maintain full operational efficiency and double the resource output, mines require an additional 0.2 Diamond every five days. If this requirement is not met, the mine will only boost production by 1.25x (+25%), falling 0.75x (-75%) short of its maximum potential output.

Strategy

Resources are essential for building various types of units and supporting factories that transform raw materials into other resources. Mines can be constructed in any city without restrictions, offering significant potential for resource production. Mines are particularly valuable as they increase your resource supply, which can be used to build and strengthen your nation or traded to other nations for money.

Tips for Constructing Mines

  • Optimal Placement: It is advised to build mines in cities located at the center of your country or along coasts far from potential threats. Mines should only be constructed in cities that have resources. To check if a city has resources, go to the bottom-right corner of the interface, particularly in the map-mode tab, and click "Resources." From there, you can select the type of resource to view its availability.
  • Resource Prioritization: Focus on placing mines in cities with high-demand resources like Tungsten, Titanium, and even Diamond. Afterward, prioritize cities that produce resources that you already have substantial reserves of.
  • Economic Strategy: Since mines cost $17,500,000 each, they can be a significant investment. However, if your treasury is substantial, you can further grow your economy by investing in mines to improve resource production and trade surpluses for profit.
  • Bonuses and Upgrades: The Chief Geologist can not only increase resource output but also reduce the financial cost of constructing mines. However, this leader is only feasible for resource powerhouses, instead of resource-scarce countries. Additionally, there are several more ways to reduce construction costs and improve resource yield, such as policies, technology, infrastructure, ideologies, formable modifiers, and more.

Trivia

  • The cities of Al Mubarraz and Al Hufuf in eastern Saudi Arabia can produce a maximum of over 200 units of oil if a mine is built on them, the Public Service Act policy is active, resource technology has been fully researched, and the Forced Labor for Dissidents policy is in place. This makes it possible for a single city to produce more oil than any other country in the world.
  • Before the Mines Update (December 19, 2022), mines inherently doubled resource output without requiring the 0.2 diamond upkeep. However, this update gave diamonds a more practical use as a resource, because prior to the update, diamonds were only used for generating resource income and trading.
