Arc 1

The Tumultuous First Day (怒涛の一日目, Dotō no Ichinichime) is the first arc of Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu. It is followed by Arc 2, The Turbulent Week. In the web novel, the first chapter of Arc 1 was released on April 20, 2012, and its last chapter was released on May 8, 2012. Arc 1 consists of a prologue, 22 chapters, and an interlude in the web novel, a light novel volume, a manga adaptation made by Daichi Matsuse, and an anime adaptation with three episodes.

Overview

Returning home from the convenience store, Natsuki Subaru finds himself being suddenly transported to a new and mysterious world. There, in the Kingdom of Lugunica, he believes himself to be a protagonist which has been granted great powers, a notion that is quickly dispelled. He soon finds himself being beaten by thugs, only to be saved by a beautiful, graceful maiden with amethyst eyes and silver-hair. Thus, he decides to help the girl find her stolen insignia. As they search for the thief, he finds himself and the girl being murdered by an unknown assailant. In a shocking twist, however, Subaru finds himself not only alive but having gone back in time to before he met the girl who died alongside him. Armed with his new fate-changing power that he dubs Return by Death, he decides to use it to save the girl from her predestined death.

Chapter 3

• Subaru's second death was toned down in the light novel. In the web novel, Elsa gouged out Subaru's eyes and dismembers each of his limbs.

Chapter 8

• A magic called duplication magic is mentioned which isn't present in the light novel. It is said to be able to replicate the appearance of living organisms, as well as reproducing items like food.

• The manga adaptation of Arc 1 is named A Day in the Royal Capital (王都の一日編, Ōto no Ichinichi-hen).
