Biography

"Marcus, my good man. This all sounds nice, but you're not going to do anything. Not until I split this sapling, myself. Then you may have her. Then you can all have her."

Faunus, A Child of Fire
Invasion of Veldt

Faunus was a sergeant aboard the King's Gaze during Admiral Atticus Noble's mission of hunting down the Bloodaxe insurgents at the far edge of the Realm. Taking longer than anticipated, they arrived in the system containing the gas giant, Mara, which had an inhabited moon where they could stop to restock their food supplies. Faunus was part of the landing crew, who was then tasked with remaining on the moon until it was time for harvest. He commanded the 13-man team with the support of a Jimmy, JC-1435, who set themselves up in one of the houses.

Jimmy in the granary

That evening, his men kidnapped the local farm girl, Sam, with the intention of having their way with her. Kora heard Sam's cries for help and confronted the soldiers, showing an unexpected mastery of combat. Private Aris, who opposed the actions of the other men, supported Kora's fight, and together they took down all but Faunus, who used Sam as a human shield. JC-1435 approached and Faunus commanded the unit to kill Kora and Aris. Unbeknownst to Faunus, the Jimmy had already started forming his own thoughts thanks to the encouragement of Sam, and instead, he shot Faunus, killing him.[2]

Equipment

  • Slag pistol: Faunus carried a standard-issue pistol during his duties as an Imperium officer.

Trivia

Faunus rank patch

Rebel Moon: Wolf: Ex Nihilo: Cosmology & Technology covers some of the ranking system of the Motherworld infantry, labeling Faunus' patch as that of a sergeant. Faunus' patch displays the king's crown in place of the red "X" depicted in the book, implying his rank is that of a higher-level sergeant, such as a staff sergeant or sergeant major. These ranks are not noted in the book, so it's unclear exactly what this particular variant of the sergeant patch means.

The back of Faunus' armor is marked "KG 3122." The twos are backwards.
