Juran (ジュラン, Juran) is Zenkai Juran (ゼンカイジュラン, Zenkai Juran), the Red Ranger of the Zenkaigers in Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger.^[2][3][4] He is one of the first two Zenkaigers to be awakened, Juran himself acting second-in-command to Zenkaizer.

History

Background

Juran once had a teacher whose beard looked like Magnet World. When he was a kid, he had to do summer homework, which he considered a drag.

One day, when he was playing with a group of Kikainoid kids, he saw a young Magine and welcomed her to the group.

Arriving on Earth

Juran was one of the Kikainoids who were mysteriously transported to Earth one month ago. As the Kikainoids quickly integrated with humans, he also tried his best to get in with them. When Kikaitopia Dynasty Tojitendo launched an invasion on Earth and terrorized its inhabitants, Juran engaged them and saved a kid. Witnessing his kindness, Kaito Goshikida gave him a Geartlinger, which allowed him to transform into Zenkai Juran.

After the first battle, Juran came to take shelter at Yatsude Goshikida's shop. TV STORY-No. 1-kai! The World of Kikai is Kikikaikai!

Meeting World Pirates

While fighting Snail World, Juran and Magine are trapped into Slow Point. Zocks tries to help them, only to get trapped too. They are eventually escape after getting super speed ability from Turboranger Sentai Gear used by Kaito. TV STORY-No. 12-kai! Slow Snail, Hard Shell!

Stacy Arc

When the residents of the world is affected by Love World's spell resulting of them fall in love with anything they first encounter even in slightest situation, Juran and Gaon fall in love each other after bumping on their fight with the World monster. Love World's stronger spell makes Juran feel bickering that makes them to quarrel. As the Zenkaigers know this is Love World's fault, they reenact Chojin Sentai Jetman's final scene after Zenkaizer uses Jetman Sentai Gear. On the scene, he portrays Raita Oishi. TV STORY-No. 18-kai! Life is Short, Fall in Love at Full-Force!

Despite being turned into an action manga as a result of Manga World's attack, Juran can still fight as Zenkai Juran. TV STORY-No. 28-kai! Weekly Shonen Manga World of Great Illustrations!

Donbrothers

Despite not being the actual Juran, the JuranTyranno that can be summoned by either Kaito Goshikida or Taro Momoi is used as itself during combat or as the other half of Don ZenkaiOh.

Personality

Juran thinks of himself as calm and reserved, but in reality he is an annoyingly stubborn Kikainoid. He loves parties and being the center of attention. He easily makes friends, especially Kaito. Despite this, he took a bit longer to get along with Gaon, as the two of them constantly bickered during their first meeting. Due to his party-loving nature, he often dances to the Geartlinger's music.

Juran often serves as Kaito's mentor about the Tojitendo empire, having lived under its oppressive ways for several years. He is, however, rather slack, primarily due to his laid-back nature. Juran is also one for hanging around children, and will play with them when allowed the chance. This extends to playing with a young Magine and protecting a human child from an attacking Kudakk.

As seen during the battle against Kotatsu World, Juran is very sensitive to high temperatures, and as such hates extreme heat.

While all the Zenkaigers excel at gunmanship, Zenkai Juran uses a fighting style emphasizing combat prowess, often charging into battle and using the Juran Sword to slash and hack apart the enemy while the Juran Shield is used to either defend against attackers or slam into the opponent.

• Fire Sonic (ファイヤーソニック, Faiyā Sonikku): Zenkai Juran can also spew fire from the Tyrannosaurus head on his chest. He used this ability to set his Juran Sword and Gaon's Gaon Claw on fire to properly combat Magnet World's magnetism. TV STORY-No. 16-kai! It's a Magnet at its Limit!
• Juran Sword Super Dinosaur Slash (ジュランソード超絶恐竜斬り, Juran Sōdo Chōzetsu Kyōryū Giri): Used when Zenkai Juran becomes huge. He attacks by wielding his weapon, the Juran Sword. It's hard to hear the name of this attack because it's used at the same time as other companions. TV STORY-No. 16-kai! It's a Magnet at its Limit!

Abilities

• Kikainoid Physiology: As a robotic being, Juran displays the following abilities:
  • Poison Spore Immunity: All Kikainoids are completely unaffected by the poisonous spores produced by Mushroom World's mushrooms, which caused shortness of breath in organic lifeforms.
  • LED Lights: Although not as prominent as Gaon's built-in lights, Juran's forearms and lower legs also come equipped with light-blue LED lights, which allow him (and possibly others) to see in the dark when activated.

Weaknesses

• Back pain: As the eldest of the core Zenkaigers, Juran's health is less than optimal, and makes him susceptible to having back pain. While he frequently bemoans about it in taxing fights, it has not properly stopped him from a proper fight yet.
• Phasmophobia: Juran absolutely despises ghosts, and often flees whenever he encounters one.

By switching his Sentai Gear to its Kikai Side, Zenkai Juran grows larger, allowing him to fight the Kudaitests. Zenkai Juran can transform into his mecha form, JuranTyranno (ジュランティラノ, JuranTirano). In this form, Juran can combine as the left half of any standard ZenkaiOh combination, but with the Zenryoku Zenkai Cannon forms the right arm of Zenryoku ZenkaiOh. This form also allows Juran to combine with DonMomotaro's Superbike Enya Rideon to form the Donbrothers' Don ZenkaiOh.

Portrayal

• Juran is voiced by Shintaro Asanuma (浅沼 晋太郎, Asanuma Shintarō)^[1], who previously voiced Sambaba in Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger, coincidentally also an anniversary series. His human form is portrayed by Katsuya Takagi (高木 勝也, Takagi Katsuya), who previously portrays Kazuya Misaki in Kamen Rider Amazons and later portrays Seiya Tatsumi in Ultraman Trigger while assuming Asanuma's voice.
• His suit actor is Yasuhiro Takeuchi (竹内 康博, Takeuchi Yasuhiro) in his second Red Ranger role since Gosei Red in Tensou Sentai Goseiger.
• In the Korean dub of Zenkaiger entitled Power Rangers Zenkaiger, Juran is renamed Mighty, while his ranger designation is Zenkai Mighty. He is voiced by Lee Won-chan (이원찬, Lee Won-chan^?), who previously voiced Eiji Takaoka/Jackie in Power Rangers Treasure Force.

Design

• Juran's untransformed form recalls the general look of Yamato Tribe Prince Geki from the same show, in addition to his head looking similar to TyrannoRanger's helmet. His party-loving nature and his habit of dancing whenever a Sentai Gear is used in the Geartlinger brings mind to the samba theme of Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger.
• Zenkai Juran is based on Shinka Gattai Daizyuzin from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, his dinosaur mode is based on Guardian Beast Tyrannosaurus.

Etymology

• Juran is named after the Super Sentai team Zyuranger (ジュウレンジャー, Zyuranger).
  • Within the scope of his family (Sanjo and Hakua), Juran's name is also derived from the Japanese term for the Jurassic Period (ジュラ紀, Jura-ki)

• Zenkai Juran is:
  • The first core team Red Ranger to not feature at the head of the team's roll call.
  • The first core Sentai Red Ranger to not be the lead protagonist of the show.
  • The only Kikainoid Zenkaiger whose past robot basis did not come from the 2000s, coming instead from the 1990s.
  • The only Kikainoid Zenkaiger whose actor has had a previous voice role in Super Sentai.
• Though his name is based on Zyuranger, official merchandise romanizes his name as "Juran" instead. ^[6]
• Juran is the only Kikainoid Zenkaiger with a sculpted mouth design. The others feature primarily a faceplate or implied mouths. As seen in episode 28, this detail is an actual mouth.
• The DX Zenkai Juran/JuranTyranno toy is the first Super Sentai DX toy to be re-released in another line (not counting reissues), being released as a part of the Donbrothers Don ZenkaiOh set well after its debut in the Zenkaiger toyline. However, the Donbrothers release of Zenkai Juran was only available as a part of the Don ZenkaiOh set, whereas the Superbike Enya Rideon was also available separately.
  • Undocumented in the pack-in assembly instruction sheet, the online PDF instruction manual, and the official instructional video on Bandai's official YouTube channel for the DX Zenkai Juran/JuranTyranno toy, is the ability for the Juran Shield to be stored on Zenkai Juran's back in his ranger form. There are two small clips on either side of the hinge on the back of the Juran Shield, which correspond with the two thin tabs on the black portion of his back. Outside of this undocumented feature, these clips serve no purpose, and cannot be utilized on any of Zenkai Juran's other clip points, due to the trenches being too thin.
• Juran is the only member of the Zenkaiger team to not get possessed by the God throughout the entire series.
  • However, he was possessed by God in Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger Final Live Tour 2022.
